There's a thread over on Pelican on this ebay auction. You may want to check it out (or the car, itself) before you bid. It was for sale a week ago, bid up to something like $45K, and then the auction was relisted.
Odd. I can't find the thread over on Pelican. The car certainly looks beautiful. It may be everything the seller represents it is in the listing (well, except for the fact that there's a single distributor--while the heads may be prepped for a twin plug system, it's not hooked up like that). But with the lack of hard details in the ad/pics, it's worth a look-see in person, official PPI, and/or a call to TLG to verify facts before purchase, IMO.
Some skepticism being expressed on Pelican and BAT: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/574064-350-hp-single-plug-3-4-calling-bs.html http://bringatrailer.com/2010/11/09/aggressive-build-rsr-style-1971-porsche-911/
I read the Pelican link. Yes lots of exaggerated claims by the seller. Looking back I did ? the 350HP and <2000 lb claims before reading on, but hey, I love a good story as much as the next guy. It "sold" for @$45k previously. Neat car but for the same coin I'd rather have a real 930.
I bet the seller pulls it soon. $35,900 with a little over a day to go. He has to be nervous since it has no reserve.
FWIW as a datapoint.......we got our client's white/green RS clone down to 2,198 pounds (and that was hard to do) and 350 HP........the entire project cost over $145K during 2007/08 with wholesale parts and labor pricing. He got 45 cents on the dollar when it I resold it this April. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It baffles me that people would put so much effort and investment into cars that they don't plan on keeping forever. All the best, Andrew.
+930 I have yet to hear of anyone making money on pseudo-tribute cars. And the one in the eBay link looks like something of a Frankenmobile. I like the color, though. Viper and emerald green were actually different paint codes, IIRC. Not sure how different they were/are in real life...
I still think it is Signal Green from the pics........Viper Green has more of a lime tint IIRC........and I have never seen Emerald Green. Doesn't really matter anyways........ Told my client he'd get killed at resale before we did the project, and he was fine with it........so we agreed to do wholesale prices all across the board with a flat fee for management to completion. Saved a good customer who buys 4-5 cars a year about $30K on parts and labor and got to build a cool car we never would have done otherwise.
