I would like to change the brake pads, as the amount of dust my current pads are generating is driving me crazy. Anyone tried the EBC Red Stuff pads on a TR? Supposedly those are low dust formulated and available for both back and front. No idea what brake pads are on the car now. https://www.brakes-shop.com/dp37532c-ebc-redstuff-brake-pads-front-ebc-dp37532c.html https://www.brakes-shop.com/dp3126c-ebc-redstuff-brake-pads-rear-ebc-dp3126c.html
I have the porterfields, mine showed up way too thick for the calipers. Luckily I ordered through porterfield and worked nearby so I could take them to be machined thinner. Other than that they have worked well.
When did you get those? Is there a chance they will come too thick when I order them now? Was that a design issue that has been corrected or else?
Got a reply from Porterfield: Likely it was a miss box issue. The front pad does come in two thickness with the AP82 being the thinner option. Without knowing the exact circumstance that is my best estimate. https://porterfield-brakes.com/search-result/?years=1991&make=17&model=744&manufacturer=7444 Thicker version for comparison. DO NOT Order this one - just trying to be thorough in my explanation. https://porterfield-brakes.com/product/ap163/ Thank you, Wendy Charlier General Manager Porterfield Enterprises Ltd 1767 Placentia Ave Costa Mesa, CA 92627
Brake pad opinion... Porterfield makes great pads! I've used the R4 & R4-S almost exclusively after departing from Ferodo "M" & DS-11. Dust is very annoying. Complete agreement on that, but what's wayy worse is poor braking performance. The Porterfield do seem to create less dust while providing good braking. About 5-10 years ago, I picked up on another Porterfield offering and have put them in two of my cars. The R4-1. It's a "Vintage" pad that works well for autocross. I have come to like the confident feel. I don't get on the tracks much nowadays, so the weekend pleasure drive is more of the focus. I do not mean to hijack the thread, but has anybody tried Pagid in their F-car? I use them pretty much exclusively in my bmw. These are the most dusty pads imaginable, but they haul down the speed with authority. For the Boxer, the Pagid does not offer the same formulation for the front & rear. Since Ferrari does not use different formulations (with different CoF), I prefer to not start R&D work now, but the modulation and ultimate grip, hot or cold, are impressive, and I'm curious.
Pagid pads were OEM for the FHP package 550/575s. Good pad but very noisy without proper bed in and moderately dusty.
