Hi Guys: Thanks for all the tidbits I've picked up that have helped me debug this 82 GTSI that I've been debugging. Very helpful. I had a nightmare last night that I thought I'd put in the forums in case I save someone the trouble I went trough. Turns out I replaced my smog pump that was making a racket. If figured I'd get a new one before it seized. careful matching on ebay turned up a rebuilt one from a Camaro that is an exact match. Key is not only matching the number, that it be Metric, and that it have the air port on the end, not the side. Number is 7832904, but the mounting/air entry varies... as does the Metric denomination. Anyway, I put that our there for anyone looking for a new cheap, identical, non Ferrari smog pump. Where my day turned sideways is that in taking out the hoses to remove the smog pump, I must have hit the yellow wire to the forward coil. I'm sure this is the trigger wire for the coil, or its ground. Whatever. Clearly, I didn't notice my mistake, and when I finished... the car ran like crap. Started... ran fairly smooth... but NO power. Could hardly get around the block, and starting in first was barely possible. Classic symptoms of losing one of the banks of cylinders... which I confirmed with cold manifold test and all. Other tell tale was that the Tach didn't work either. Anyway, with daylight and after a night of thinking the new smog pump was a dud... I looked and saw the spade lug off the coil... hooked it up, and was out for a great drive. So yet another take on the lost bank problem.. and lost power. Check the low voltage connections to your coils. Mine were all kind of loose which I'm sure contributed. So carefully crimp the female connectors so that they really press on the spades. Car drives like new again. YMMV
