I've always been fastidious re tyres on my cars even when I 1st owned a car from the age of 18 (Ford Escort Pirellli CN36s) The Rolls-Royce & Bentley cars always run the correct Avons. My everyday cars I keep a long time a Mercedes Benz 380SEL always Michelin same with with Range Rover always Michelin. The E-type for the last 10 years a quality R spec Avon, everytrip that car does on the norm a 4 day 2,000km run, wheels stripped and rally spec tubes inspected for damage/wear. All the Porkers always the recommended tyre . The BB512 when purchased had worn out Michelins ,I replaced them with a quality R spec tyre that I used on the Historic race Mustang in damp conditions, yes they were worn out when I sold the car. Its rare for me to have a tyre failure .In 46 years of driving on the average around 16,000 to 20,000km p/a So for this trip as far as Cooktown ,including 5 day GG and around 10,000 km trip in total. I removed the 15,000km old Goodyears on the Porsche Macan GTS (20 inch #45 aspect ratio) with new Michelins .The car has already done 3 long rural trips on secondary roads, Tasmania,VIC and a Snowny Mountains run. With NO tyre issues. The new Michelin great tyre ...till we hit secondary roads with major depth potholes, the tyres have done just on 2,000kms around 400kms of drving damaged secondary roads due to the NSW floods . To my horror I drive into a NSW rural town , walk around the car and find the 2x front tyres both have major blisters caused I suspect by sudden impact with potholes! Lucky the blisters were on the outside,I even got the tyre shop to inspect the rear tyres. So....now in a rural town for 3 nights , while on the second afternoon 3x new Dunlop tyres arrive for fitting ,one spare now as the car only has a 80kph spare per factory specs, I even included in my "kit" tyre repairs kit ,speed brace and tyre repair fluid cans by 3! And YES where I could I avoid potholes when driving . So my GG run has been one of being "the lonely guy" Perhaps unlucky but I'm rather nervous about the next 8,000kms of this trip! Lucky the wheels have NO damage.
What a PITA for you The car is designed for yummy mummies to drive around Double Bay and Toorak Village Claiming that it is suitable for spirited road trips or off-road has just been proven to be BS Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
This is so weird - when I first opened Fchat, the list of latest posts was topped by this thread , but it doesn’t actually show up on the Aussie page? I think I guess who you’re talking about! How many wheels broken so far? The outback QLD leg will be a laugh a minute!
Sorry to hear that Rob, it’s a big effort getting out to these drives, hopefully the next leg will be a lot more pleasant To be honest I recon the Mondial would be a cracking GG car, plenty of clearance, luggage space and a Ferrari
They look like Michelin Latitude Sport 3, N spec ? . If so, they have a UTQG of 220 AA, which is a pretty soft tire for a SUV The Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season (also N spec) has a UTQG of 520 AA The Goodyear Eagle F1 (also N Spec) comes in with a UTQG 300 AA.
Yes they are Michelin, still think it's pothole issue damage impact putting on the front Dunlop which is not as soft so I am told
Reinforces my opinion of low profile tyres - a waste of time on a road car. Great on glassy-smooth fresh tarmac and race tracks, stupid for the road, especially on an SUV. The wheel should be big enough to clear the disc, and that's it. It must drive engineers crazy to try and get a reasonable ride comfort out of these modern wagon wheels, and still control the chassis. Incidentally, I would take the tyres back for a refund. Having both fronts blister like that with no damage to the rim sounds a bit odd to me.
In contact with Michelin re details and photos.next long trip I do.,wanting next year to do Perth ,I will fit a higher profile tyre it is what it is, sports model thus the low profile tyre,15 other cars on the trip most have 45 tyres and no issue me thinks tyre fault
Sports model - lol It’s designed for a yummy mummy to do the school run Those ladies need to look good in Toorak Village, hence the big lips, boobs, rims and low profile tyres The fact that it’s the heaviest car on the GG might have something to do with its inability to traverse potholes Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I did the same not that long ago on my way to work. 205/45/17 run flat!! Farkin annoying…. This is what I hit. I knew it was there somewhere, but it was dark and raining. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Close to 100mm at its deepest. The roads close to work are supposed to be maintained by Melbourne Airport as they own the land. Trying to get things fixed is a PIA. About a week later they filled it. It’s been about a month now and it’s breaking up already…
That’s what Shjts me about this country Dan…They are quick to take your taxes but don’t maintain anything..I guess Albo and his cronies need to fly First class around the world talking BS…
well: I had that for around 75kms . This country is rooted ,but where does one live? WTF ,I ordered the tyres and paid for them on Monday afternoon around 2.00pm , its now Thursday ,they might arrive by 6.00 tonight! Brisbane and Sydney either is half a days drive! Covid has given all the bums in this country a handout to sit on there arse and do little .. Wait till Albo,Greens and the Teals get stuck into ,so glad I'm the age I am...enjoy the ride all..NOT.
That’s ****…. Not good enough. I’ve ordered stuff from overseas that’s arrived quicker than that. I’m assuming they were in stock? If they arrive at 6 will they be fitted today? Hindsight is a beautiful thing, you would have been better off hiring a car and picking them up yourself… And yes, I can’t see Albo and his mates get us out of this hole….
Hope your experience is better than mine in Glen Innes a couple of weeks ago. Waiting at New England Motor Lodge on the highway for a car carrier to drop off my replacement for the car I lost in the Lismore floods at 2.00pm. At 8.00pm after dinner and a few beers in the restaurant I see a car carrier drive by, 5 minutes later I get a phone call "I'm out the front". No he wasn't and wouldn't answer the phone. 30 minutes of looking later another phone call "I'm around the corner in Grey Street" I tell him to stop there and not move. Nope, not in Grey Street and again no answer on his phone. I then jumped in with the local copper and got him to drive me around till we found him nowhere near where he said he was - a bit annoyed and no explanation for why he was 6 hours late - vietnamese so hardly understood a word. If you get stuck for something to do, drive 15k down the Inverell road to Matheson and have a look at the church my grandfather built in 1924. It is sitting in the middle of a paddock on the right.
