Hello, I am in the journey of finding a replacement for my 430, found a pretty 458 in good shape, 16k mi, Rosso Corsa on Tan, side Shields, the CPO was extended until 2026. Clutch is new since 2022. extensive service records, only 2 owners. It is a low spec car though, would this affect resale value even on a popular colour combo? (no led steering wheel, standard audio, no front lift) I personnaly find it very good to my personal taste, the price is fair but not LOW (around 210k), the CPO is a good thing. had a similar match with a Grigio Silverstone but this one had no shields and is a low spec on a less popular colour, without CPO. Thanks for your advices
Standard audio is fine, the JBL system isn't great anyway from what I've heard. No front lift is also fine. Not having the LED steering wheel is not ideal, though.
Yes I have seen some people really attached to this option to the point of not considering 458 without this spec, Personally I don’t track and don’t need it, even if I drive fast, like many owners of Mclaren, porshes and older ferraris But it’s Sad I get this can affect resale value, Otherwise I think the colour combo is a big plus!
A lightly specced car in Rosso Corsa over Cuoio will always be easy to move on resale. The lower MSRP will put it at the lower end of the 458 market, but that will be as true when you buy it as it will be when you sell, and means more potential buyers.
Maybe not as much in my country, very few models for sale in canada compared to US. A rosso corsa / tan is still a timeless combo as well…
I've sent dct replacements and rebuilds on early models. Not clutches.unless it was a complete track rat and even then... I haven't seen clutch replacements on early cars. I've seen cases fail. I've seen the speed sensors fail which causes a rebuild/reseal just to get to the sensor. I haven't seen clutches. Are you speaking of the clutch or the dct unit? I'm not talking smack... I'm trying to find out if there is something I don't know about.
if you like the spec you're seeing and CPO matters to you, then go for it. Just my opinion, but red on tan isn't as desirable as red on black I think. cuoio is a darker browner tan that looks much nicer in my opinion. Just speaking for myself, LED wheel and Carbon buckets are my only must have options. Also agree with above poster, clutch change is odd, probably DCT as you're suggesting
LED would be a dealer breaker for me. I would also be wary of a clutch replacement at 16k miles. The DCT should last for the life of the car. I would pass.
it's not the clutch.. its the Gearbox, my bad. for me a good thing it was replaced as early models had some issues. the steering wheel ? I don't care, mclaren don't have it and are still fun cars to drive, had also a 430 I enjoyed a lot, without light telling me when to shift, I am not late thanks for the advice tho , will not pay the high range price for it.
I'd almost feel better after seeing the transmission replaced. There is a known defect in many of the 458 DCTs and a lot of them have been replaced or repaired, just search this board and you'll see tons of threads on it. Since it's already been done to this car I think that's actually a plus.
I personally don't feel that the LED wheel is absolutely necessary for driving it and enjoying it (unless you are tracking it). However, I had it on my list as a must have, because it's cool, and it's also what makes the car special and unique (Michael Schumacher helped design it I believe). Plus, not having it basically kills resale, due to the amount of people that have it as a "must have" item. The other common must have item is the front end lift. And for most people (not me), the more carbon fiber, the better. I like the carbon fiber (my car happens to have a lot of it), but I'm a take it or leave it guy with that, but I'm the minority.
yes, also question of taste indeed, I have tons of Carbon in my M8 but like the ferrari interior in classic aluminio - leather regarding the steering wheel, can I retro-fit it ? if I happen to be succesful in my job this year, might invest in it we dont have tons of 458 available in Canada for a descent price . thanks !
You can retrofit the wheel. I think it's about $6,000 for the wheel, but I think I've seen them for less in the past. I've heard of people that just turned on the option in the menu once it was installed, but I heard from others that you may have to have the dealer program it in before turning it on in the menu though.
It’s around $10k at dealer with install and coding. If you’re going to spend 10k might as well find a car that has is already unless it’s your perfect spec minus the wheel (which seems unlikely if they skimped on the wheel)
I’m a year into my 458. The dealer talked about all must-have options.. i would say don’t believe anything they say for the most part. Get the LED wheel cause it’s cool, sure resale, that too maybe.
