My '86 Testarossa has the standard driver side long mirror mounted high next to the windshield. I wanted to mount it to the small window on the driver's door. I found the bracket in the link below for sale.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-Testarossa-LH-Side-Mirror-Support-61566500-/110652382081?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item19c3655b81

Can I simply mount my existing mirror to this bracket? Also, it looks like there's a rubber boot that goes on the base of the mirror when its mounted lower. Again, is this a part I can purchase or are the mirrors different? Also, any suggestions on the mirror control cable?

Any advice would be great. Someone backed up into the car a couple weeks ago, so its at the shop right now, it would be the perfect time to move the mirror, patch the holes and have it painted if I am ever going to do it!

Nothing is ever that easy- it is not the same part. Not sure if the part is still available, it might be NLA. I had a part inside break on mine a few years ago and had to replace the whole thing, it was something like $2,500 from FNA, probably more than that now. I lucked out and found one from a car that was being parted out, and it was already painted the right color.

Why do you want to do this? That high mirror is a distinctive point of style on the 85 and 86 Testarossas.

It is not an easy conversion. The mirrors are different as well as the window frames and some of the surrounding gaskets. PM me your email address and I can send pdfs of the related pages.

If you could find a pair of late style mirrors, you might be able to make or modify the other items required to do the conversion. I doubt that all of the late style components are easily available. It would be an expensive project.

I like the early style because they are so unique. Personally, I would leave it as is.

When I bought the car it already has the right side mirror mounted on the door and the driver side is pillar mounted. It looks unbalanced. Furthermore, the pillar mounted side is just at the right height for me, so that it blocks my view of pedestrians crossing the street to my left side. Honestly, the door mounted mirror will be safer and look more balanced.

I guess my car is an "s6" since the last five digits of the SN are 66815. This seems to complicate things even more for finding a mirror. Its weird, I can find an s6 mounting bracket in catalogs, but no a part # for an s6 mirror? Does anyone know whether using a a bracket and mirror meant for a post #67079 will properly mount to an s6 car?

I almost feel like giving up, its too much of a distraction from other things that have to get done in life. Moving a mirror 8" down is not that important I suppose!

Take the mismatched mirror off the right hand side.

James, that takes care of the imbalance, but not the visibility. It's likely going to stay this way at this point anyway. Body shop needs to finish it and I have not received any solid solutions for installing the door mirror.

I understand the reply from those of you out there who like the pillar mirror, I too think it looks cool, but I just figured that if I had to change out one mirror, it might as well be the safer choice.

wow - I wanted a later model TR ('90) and wanted to change the low mirrors to high mirrors. Never thought I'd see a request to do the opposite. As other posters have said, that's one of the TR's distinctive features.

Well, its paint time tommorrow morning, so it stays imbalanced for now. One high and one low mirror!
