I’m not psyched about the prospect of lowering my car, but I have a set of 18” wheels inbound and I think it will look goofy if I don’t. To those who’ve lowered: how much is enough? An inch? Did you buy H&R springs or just adjust the coil overs? Any gotchas I should know about? TIA, Lucas. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Any thoughts? Is there a limit to how low you can go the stock springs? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
The tire OD to coachwork relationship (spacing to wheel arch) is more important than the wheel size -- are you planning to use smaller OD tires?
OD will be nearly identical to stock - 215/45-18 front and 255/40-18 rear. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
My mechanic says the factory springs will only support about .25” inches of lowering (they’re too soft). Does that jibe with everyone’s experience? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Then no issue -- I always like a little lower on everything, but you haven't really changed anything so would have the same available ride height adjustment range as stock.
Have no information on that, but .25" seems like very little. The manufacturer builds in suspension travel limit stops so the only "risk" is that you'd be hitting those travel limit stops more often on big bumps. Manufacturers have reduced the distance to hit the travel stops from the 1960s (where you can drive a car over a street curb with no problem ) to where you couldn't do that with your 348, but the suspension figures in the 348 WSM shows that the available upward wheel movement might be 1.5"~2" before hitting the travel limit stops. You can't drop it 2", but something like ~0.5" looks doable to me (although don't know that for sure).
.25 is probably as much lowering thread there is on the rear shocks. Maybe very slightly more, but thats about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
My mech said the perch could lower much farther but that the springs were too soft to handle that little travel and that the shocks wound bottom out. Thanks for your reply!
