Regardless of price, whether you think it is too high or too low, that car will be gone. Do you realize how many have been on the prowl for an S1?
Well I for one thought the $480k was an absolute steal....... Glad to see it go onto the next owner so fast and hopefully a long term one at that. I believe this situation shows you the demand for lamborghinis is very large. This car was probably shown to a select few people before it first sold. Marketing can be a powerful thing. A million US dollars is not what it used to be. Getting into a blue chip rare piece of automotive art/history will carry it's price tag going forward. Or you could wait to stash away a cool collection and get stuck with cars that monitor your every move and eventually move you on their own with no driver. Soundless capsules. Even though the bullet points are there that screams Bubble, it may just not be one or at least this may have legs for years to come. Some cars are along for the ride others I feel are just getting discovered again, like the countach. Riddled with the gold chain crowd perception for so long, I think they have finally found their way.
Good call Peter! To sell that fast at $690K or so,the car was felt under-priced by the buyer. I guess the rise may go a bit more parabolic for a while.. I am sure the seller could have sold it for $800K as purchases seem now to be made based on the fear that "I have to get it fast or someone else will get it from me". With enough buyers, that is a great (or sobering) receipe for S1 going to 1 Million well before years end. Unless you are truely an 8 figures net worth at least and losing 6 digits figures wont prevent you from sipping that glass of Veuve Cliquot one can only watch and learn about bubbles and car appreciation...
1121036 is not "an S1", it is a very special S1 due to its perfect AND original conditions. A very rare combination!
a part of me really wants this to end and we can buy LP400 at 100k euro and LP400S at 50-60.000 euro as 10 years ago, we can stop talking about values for some days and get back on what tyres put on or if we should use lead addictive or which sport exhaust has the better sound...well...car lovers threads now the cars are becoming "Rich" guy's toys and the passionates owners are getting fewer EVERY day we (people that dreamt about countach as children and that finally bought one 20-30 years later and even the ones driving them from 5-10-15 years) are also getting carried away and mainly talk about the last sale of that model comparing it to the previous one and speculating how much ours could be sold for next month see Albert selling his 5000s? that is a good sign these cars are one by one getting away from car lovers hands to multimillionaire and speculators
I agree completely! Now here's a photo of the front tyre on the '82 white/white Countach auctioned yesterday.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
^ best post to describe what is happening. I have coveted owning a Countach for 30 years, and came close but now know it will never be a reality.
i am glad i am not the only one thinking like this Harry, this is an original 205 P7 i think....VERY old! almost as the car itself i had same on mine....:0 changed for safety reasons...even if they look GREAT on the car! ...i kept them on the box aniway
Historics at Brooklands - Specialist Classic and Sports Car Auctioneers - Lamborghini Countach LP5000S there is something interesting and strange in this car: the car looks like a 400S series 3 it has interior of a 400S BUT door panels from a 5000S it has a 5000s wing it has what it looks a 4000 engine (2 distributors) it has 400 S badges the VIN looks like a 400S VIN BUT the number is later than the last one supposedly made.... i would LOVE to see it in person
Very true. At these prices the real car guys are getting shut out. I know at this price level I would not be interested in a Countach
Emilio, When there is a bubble, cars that are not even perfect bring work records. Hope you & yours are well. Best,
Hi Joe I am fine. Tks Hope the same for you and yours. Yes. True. Once again i would be a bit happy to see it going down. ....even if i should not with 2 old Lamborghini and one Ferrari today. .. no more chance of retiring with sale of countach...but may be an other car to add hihihihi
Spot on Emilio. Over the last two months I did a lot on my car including new tires, brake lines, and even installed an Al Burtoni exhaust. Learned a lot about California smog (yikes), lug nut contact angles and other things to look out for, but for some reason there's little desire to talk about it outside of Cars & Coffee. Seems the forums are more hung up about prices nowadays. Time to resurrect the CT technical thread. Maybe next week
