Has anyone driven one of the F1 cars at LRS racing school?? It looks like a blast. http://www.lrsformulausa.com/f1/
I'd be curious to hear some feedback too, as I'm seriously considering going some time in the next few months. Anyone?
I'm planning on doing that as well. What makes it a bit tricky is that they have this only during so many days. Wouldn't it be wonderful to drive the Prost? That car used to be powered by the Ferrari engine when racing for real.
I understand that there's an '01 Williams expected to be added to the stable soon too, but in any case they won't guaranty you your choice of cars.
It seems like I read an account here from someone that had done this, but I can't find it by searching? I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has been there, and how the experience was. Thanks Mark
I'll be the "stick in the mud". It would be more appropriate to label this an "Experiance" rather than school. A friend of mine went to a Nascar "School" and to this day is convinced he drove one of the Tony Stewart cars.
For a $3000 day at the track they only promise you 4+ laps in an F1 car. I would much rather just do an extra DE this season.
$3 grand for 4 laps?? Does it cost them that much to give you 10 laps? 4 laps seems a little nickel dime.
I agree that this isn't a proper "school", but you're not paying $3K merely for 4 laps in an F1 car, but rather receiving a modicum of instruction and some seat time in an F2000 car too. Extra F1 laps are available for $500 each, and I'd planned on booking a couple of additional laps. As for doing another DE event with the money instead, this obviously isn't intended to be a substitute for that sort of thing nor, with all due respect, for folks who need to trade one off against the other. While it IS a lot of money, you can't drive an F1 car just anywhere, and I assume that their costs for maintenance, insurance, etc. are pretty high.
A friend of mine was seriously looking into buying a vintage F1 racer. Standard type with a Cossie. Until he learned about the immense costs to keep even a purely mechanical car running: Easily 10k for a "race" weekend. Count the laps they do there and you realize that 3k for 4 laps has its reason. It ain't cheap, that's for sure, but your least expensive ticket into a F1 cockpit this side of the Atlantic.
