I just saw the new LS on the road and I must say I was not impressed at all on how the car looked. At first when I saw the car in my rear view mirror, I thought it was a IS, but as it got closer, I realized the car was way too wide to be an IS. It finally passed me on my right. I saw the side view and I was shocked to see how the car still looks like a Toyota. Then I see the rear and that was even worse. Then it passed the new S class and it look completely ordinary compared to the S. Personally I think the older shape looked more luxurious. Lexus really screwed up this one.

Waiting to see one in the flesh. In pics the profile looks a bit 7series BMW-ish to me.

I want to see a LS460L (long wheel base) with the "recliner option package"...

So far I like what I see... but I haven't see it in person yet.

We were watching the World Series last night and Lexus had a commercial on for the new LS. My wife was blown away with the self parallel parking feature on the car. I have to agree with you on the design aspect of it...it dosen't look like a $70,000 car by any means, but the technology is simply amazing, maybe a little too whiz-bang, but amazing none the less.

Just went to website and the base price of the LS is 71,000 for the L version. With all the options it comes to 86k, which means it will cost you about 93k out the door after tax and license. Wouldn't spend almost a 100k for a Lexus.

Agree with you on the looks. I'm an LS guy but I won't be picking one of these up. Then again, I don't like the looks of the new S-class either. Benz lost me as a customer when they stopped making the W140 S-class. BMW lost me with the 745 and now it looks like Lexus has lost me with the new LS...sigh. :(

If there is any luxury car out there I would spend 93k on without any reservations, it would be a Lexus. Their quality & service is without a doubt the new benchmark.

I have driven everything out there, and I would take my father's new GS over my business associate's new S600 any day of the week.

I am by no means an MB fan, but a GS over an S600?

Even I am surprised by that one. I only have a SL, but damn that thing can move!

The entire Lexus line still looks like Toyotas. The IS is nice, but GS and LS cars don't have the looks to suit the price range.

And GS over S600? You must be joking.

I agree with TopElement, although the technology in Lexuses is impressive. Even some of the simple touches, like the rotate-and-flip stereo in my ex-g/f's SC430, are clever. The self-parking is jaw-droppingly cool. If they do figure out how to style a car at some point, Lexus will be unstoppable.

Lexus has never been known for it's leading edge styling, so the new one being ugly doesn't surprise me a bit. I've always thought they were a little like vanilla ice cream: very good, but so what?
