seems a fairly balanced article https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/rewriting-history-lewis-hamilton-prepares-230908524.html
How do you know his dad didn't take him ice skating when he was 4? - Were you brought up with Lewis in the same house?
Theres always a bit of luck for anyone to have success, not just in f1 but any facet of life. Every rich guy i know who's earned his money has admitted this to me.
Robbed by whom, except by himself? Went to the gravel in China. To say nothing of an incredible blunder in Canada the year after, in 2008, when he rear-ended Kimi at the exit of the stands...Oh well...if he had what it takes, he could have been champion in 2011 and 2012 as well.? Trouble is: he does have what it takes, except when he has got a superior car. An "second tier driver", if you ask me...
SPA 2008 race fixing..that was the crux of the matter, a total farce/disgrace. Excuse me for asking, but who is top tier if Hamilton isn't ?...
I actually agree with the Hamilfans today. That whole article was a stupid "what if" piece. What if Senna didn't die, What if Clark didn't die, What if Peterson didn't die. It happened. Its history. It can't be re-written. He will be a 3x WDC this year. Next year, who knows.
I think you people purposefully try wind me up... Despite all his blunders Hamilton was much quicker than Kimi. His car turning off for half a minute was the real kicker. Conspiracy much. Hamilton will be a 5 wdc or more imo
+1 Describing Lewis Hamilton as being a "second tier driver" is about as accurate as Yasuhisa Arai's Honda power predictions!
I agree. Hamilton will likely be a 5-time WDC. Certainly a 4-timer. However, I believe Vettel will be a 6-7 time WDC.
BUT I AGREE HE IS, Steve, I have no problem with that, believe me! And I like the boy, too... I am just tired of being told he is like the "tiger balm" in Asia: cures all diseases, makes no mistakes, etc... He is no Ayrton Senna, and will never be...(and I never was a fan of Ayrton, either!) Any driver belongs to his era: I am sick and tired of being told such things as "he should have been 2007 Champion": whatever we think about it: HE WAS NOT. And we could also discuss the fact that he should have been the 2008 Champion: what about Felipe? Truth is that the boy is very talented, but ridiculised himself in 2011 and 2012 (that year's McLaren was the tool for a world champion, but he was not able to make the best of it...) and since 2014 his car was so superior that he had only one adversary, his team mate What does this proves? NOTHING. And by painting him in so much Gold, and in so many layers, the fanboys are actually doing him, or his reputation, no favour at all... Again: I like the boy. Would be happy to drink a couple of pints with him. I am sure he is nice. I wish some would understand that there is no use to enthuse so much about him, that is not helping his reputation! Rgds
He stupidly pissed it away in 2007, won it in 2008. I Don't think he's a second tier driver (that would be nico IMHO) , but I don't think he's the best in the field either. As Bernie said it's an engineering championship (shocked it took him that long to figure it out) but it's been that way for years now. The amazing thing is that hammy hasn't learned a damn thing in 8 years of f1; in china 2007 he was told to stay out while his tires were crap and he did, in Monaco he was told to come in whilst his tires were perfectly fine and he pissed away victory. He has zero situational awareness, and when some adversity presents itself he makes mistakes (Hungary 2015). He is fast and good in the rain but I think seb and Fred are more intelligent. I recall when seb won one of his championships the red bull engineer told him to enjoy it because nothing lasts forever. MB's reign will end just as Red Bull's & Ferrari's did...
If the rules and performance for next year are similar to this year, then yes he'll be a 4X wdc. However I agree that Vettel will be in the right place and right time as he was with Red Bull. Ferrari will get their stuff together by 2017 and we'll watch the index finger on the podium.
Precisely. Hamilton is able to capitalize on his current position in a dominant car/team. Vettel can do the same, but also has the ability to improve a team and make it a winner. Vettel creates success for himself. Hamilton can only be given success.
Hmmm 2007 stats: POLE POSITIONS: Kimi: 3 Massa: 6 Lewis: 6 (5 on merit and one gifted to him due to Alonso getting a 5 place grid penalty for blocking him in the pit-lane in Hungary). Alonso: 2 RACE WINS: Kimi: 6 Massa: 3 Lewis: 4 Alonso: 4 FASTEST LAPS: Kimi: 6 Massa: 6 Lewis: 2 Alonso: 3 So in summary, Kimi had only half the number of pole positions as Lewis did but won half as many more races than Lewis managed, and he had three times as many fastest laps as lewis did! That doesn't say Lewis was "much faster than kimi" to Me! That also doesn't say to Me that Kimi was not a worthy winner of the WDC as you seem to be implying! "Ah - But Lewis had to battle with Alonso as well!" I'm sure you'll then claim As I recall the 2007 season, kimi had to fight both Lewis and Alonso in order to win the WDC. Added to that, Massa back then was as much on par with Kimi as Alonso was to Lewis, and had Massa not been disqualified from the Canadian GP that year for driving through a red light at the end of the pit-lane then the final standings for 2007 may have read completely differently! At the end of the day, the WDC is won over an entire season, not a single race, and Kimi, Massa, Lewis and Alonso all had their ups and downs throughout the season. None of them had an easy run in the WDC, and Kimi won it fair and square on speed and merit!
If Hamilton was "robbed" of the 2007 WDC, won by Raikkonen, Massa was "robbed" of the 2008 WDC, won by Hamilton. In fact, Hamilton raced better during his first year in F1, than ever since, IMO. Now, he wins because he has a superior car and enormous team support, but put Vettel, Alonso, Button in that Mercedes and they would be winning too.
I hope it does; he is still young enough to have a second career at Ferrari, as successful as his first one at RB.
More or less what I was trying to say, but said in much better words. Or: I still like Lewis a lot, but I am still waiting for him to win in face of worthwile opposition. As his car was so superior in 2014 and 2015, he only has Nico to beat in the last two years, and that doesn't establish him as a great driver...even if he might be one, but he didn't have the occasion to prove it until now. And when paired with Jenson Button, Jenson managed to convert average results in qualification into equal results - to Lewis - in race, proving that in fact, Jenson is the better racer. And I agree with William, his best season was 2007. By far. Rgds
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.....sorry, i'm calming down now....you do know that this will be in reality Lewis second title don't you? The one the FIA gave him in 2008 isn't really his...
