Seems like your battery has discharged to the point that it cannot supply enough power for the trunk release. It happened to me during last few months of my dying OEM battery before it was replaced.

The manual release cable is indeed located on the left under the driver-side dash. It's not easy to locate but it is there.

Thanks. Francis at Algar was kind enough to guide me through the re-initialization process which proved effective. I was also able to locate the manual release.

I had the same problem on a 2013, what's the reinitialization process? Posting the fix would be helpful to others with this problem, as other 2013s are coming out of warranty.

    Good idea:

Using one of the two key fobs:

    1) Unlock the doors
    2) Lock the doors
    3) Hold down both the lock and unlock door buttons simultaneously for a slow count to 10
    4) Unlock the luggage compartment using the key fob
    5) Both the key fob the unlock button on the left sill should operate properly at this point

I may have steps 1 and 2 reversed, but I'll double check and update this post accordingly.

    Thanks ..... joe

Had a similar problem on my FF a few days ago. Neither fob nor internal release would open. Neither did holding unlock and trunk open buttons at the same time on the fob. Unlock, lock and unlock of the doors seem to do the trick tho...
