Well, I've got a couple of posts already but figured I may as well say hi.

I'm in my early thirties, and while I've wanted a Ferrari pretty much forever, I hadn't really given buying one much thought until recently. I've had some medical issues come up which have prevented me from driving for a bit, so now I'm thinking once those are sorted out, it's as good a time as any to pull the trigger.

I'll be looking for a 348 Spyder as a 512TR is out of my budget. Actually rented a 348 a few years ago so I'm at least somewhat familiar with the car.

    Hello to all!

My name is Alan from Dacula, GA and I've just learned about this site when I attended a Ferrari show last month at T. Rutlands in Tucker, GA. I have always been in love with the 308 and have had my eye out for a chance to find either a deal on a real one or nice Kit Car version. (I ended up finding a Pontiac MERA up in Richmond VA). For anybody that is unfamiliar, the MERA is the "Holy Grail" for the 308 Kit Cars and Fieros in general but this one needs a lot of work. I have had the engine serviced and checked out. (The car only has 75,000 original miles on it which was the good news. The bad news was that it has never seen the inside of a garage since it was built). Next will be a trip to the paint shop and followed by new interior. T. Rutlands has been a great help with information and parts that I need to restore and update my new project.

    BTW... This site is fantastic!

I lurked while I was looking for a F-car, but figured I'd chime in now that I have one. Partly due to what I read on here it did not take me long to find a car and get comfortable with the seller - a little over a week from deciding I was semi-serious to putting a deposit on a '85 Euro 308 QV. Once I saw it in person, drove it, and saw the price I just couldn't help it. I had been looking at M5s and S6s. Who wouldn't buy a Ferrari at less than half the price! I certainly wouldn't. ;) Maybe I'll get one of those respectable cars when my wife is done school, but it's Ferrari and Subarus for now ('05 XT and '04 STI).

I must admit that I am already calling the 308 my "first" Ferrari as I suspect there will be more.

Thanks for the great threads I've read and good to be a member of the community!

    Hello,
    My Name is Jim Harris.
I do not yet own a Ferrari but will in the near future. I have only been a lurker for 4 days. This place is super!

I am a modern Ferrari lover. That means, the older cars don't get my blood temps up. But any of the current ones including: the 355, 550, 575, 360, F50 onto the magnificent 430 and now the formidable 599, these are euphoric automobiles and from my perspective, the greatest sports cars on this earth. . .bare none.

However guys, I have two questions:
    1) What is the build quality of todays Ferraris?
    2) Do you guys ever turn on your radios in the car or is the Ferrrari Philharmonic all you ever listen to?

    Cheers,
    Jim

p.s. The first car I want is the F430 in either yellow or (sometimes I think that my first Ferrari should be red/tan-to pay homage to Enzo) with the BBS type wheels.
Or, perhaps if want to be discrete, I'll take blue!

    Hi!

I am new to this forum, but I figured since I am a fan of Ferrari (maker of some of the finest motorcars in the world) I should join in...!

Although it is highly unlikely I will be able to afford to own and maintain a Ferrari any time in the forseeable future (I have two small children and some debt...you do the math), one can dream, right?

My "dream car" is actually a black-on-black Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina...not exactly an easy car to find, much less afford!

I am looking forward to learning a lot here, and make some new friends in the process!

    Ciao,

    Bill

*** P.S. ~ Yes, my screen name is paying homage to the tune of the same name by Canadian rockers Rush (one of my favourite bands, BTW). And since my favourite Ferrari is a Barchetta...it is only more fitting!

I am 17 and turning 18 at the end of this month. I do own my own car and it is a 1995 Nissan 240SX at the moment. I am on this site mainly after hearing from friends its a good place to get inside tips on when and where car meets are going to occur. I have since then met a few owners and am glad to be on this site. Rarely do I check the other forums I just hang around the Canada forums. I have always been into exotics and supercars.

Maybe in the future when I become more active on this forum I will consider a membership, only time will tell. Until next time, take care!

Hello all, my name is Jack and I live in Michigan.
I just discovered this site yesterday, and joined immediately - can't really call myself a lurker quite yet.
I have had the disease just about as long as I can remember. In 1970, my sophomore year in high school, I worked two jobs all summer to save up the $500 it cost me to buy my first car - a '61 Austin Healey 3000. Followed it with a few other British cars...always lusted for Ferraris.

Fast forward to 1986, I had been out of the sports car ownership buisness for several years (wife and kids instead).
I was going to the store and in the parking lot was a flatbed with two 308's on it. I went to look at them, and although I was not extremely well versed in all things Ferrari, they didn't look quite right to me. I waited for the driver to return and asked him - he told me they were Meras, Fiero base replicas made in Capac which is only about a half hour from where I lived. He told me they cost about $30,000. I thought to myself, you can probably buy a real one for that!
Shortly afterward, I was telling a friend about the experience and he told me that he had sold a wood stove to a guy nearby who worked on Ferraris, and gave me the name. I looked him up and, sure enough, he had a very nice 308 GTSi for sale at $32000. The hook was set. After a careful review of my (nearly nonexistent) finances, I realized that it would be irresponsible to my family to buy the thing so I bought a very nice 1979 Corvette instead.

Last year, I sold the Corvette and started planning to build a Cobra replica. Last week I saw a 308, and suddenly I realized that we are now in Ferrari territory - the Cobra might just take a bit longer than I planned (though I have a killer engine half built).
So, now I find myself beginning to seriously do my homework and I found this highly informative group. Hopefully, I will be posting "baby pictures" here in the near future.

Initial leanings are toward a carbureted GTB but condition, proximity, timing and price will all be factors in where I wind up.

    Hi All-
I was watching TV today...a program called Classic Car Hunters that got my juices flowing. I've always dreamed of a true barn find exotic.

They showed pictures of the Concourse D'Elegance and of course some beautiful Ferrari's. So I did some hunting on-line and found this site.

I never had the opportunity to go the Concourse D'Elegance while I lived in CA 1966-1973...my loss.

My fist job out of college was to instrument some custom cars out at the LA airport that were overheating. They were made by some guy named Shelby.....didn't know him from Adam at the time!! All I knew was that his garage was hot as hell!

In 1970 I was shopping for a sports car....looking at Porsche, Datsun and Ferrari Dino. I had to make an appointment just to SIT IN the Datsun. I was dissapointed after I did.

I also didn't much like the idea of pulling a rear tire off to change the oil filter of the Dino. The glue the Italians used for the interior broke down in the CA heat and all the upholstry was drooping down around my head. I think they were asking about $7000 at the time. I thought, who would pay that much money for such poor workmanship...!!!! I went across the street and bought the Porsche.....MY BIIIGGG LOSS!!!!!

I love the lines of the Dino to this day.

My brother in-law had a motorcycle accident and was brain injured. I was doing a "mini" restoration (body on) on his Nissan 300ZX to give him an incentive to get through rehab. We later found out that he would never drive again. So I continued the "restoration" to see if I enjoyed doing it as much as I thought I would. I did ....I want to do something more serious now.

My neighbor's friend is the marketing manager at Paul Russell Restoration's here in Mass. who has several Concourse D'Elegance wins under his belt. He also stores 1/3 of Ralph Lauren's car collection including the 1938 Bugatti Model 57SC.....aluminum body sportser.....I believe currently valued at $12 million. Talk about being in heaven.

He has a lot of one off Ferrari's there...some prince of whatever wanted a special Ferrari....he's redoing it from original Ferrari dwgs. His people are masters of the English wheel for fitting body panels. They had a Porsche 904 and 906 there that his helpdidn't want to work on......only valued at $500k

Anyway, I thought I'd join this forum to see what's going on ..........maybe someday I'll run across my dream barn find.
    Ciao

I discovered this site while doing research looking for my first Ferrari and with the help of pistonheads website in the UK ignored most of the advice and have just brought a blue F355(about 2 and a half weeks ago). It is now back in the shop after wetting itself in the local parking lot with what looks like a split radiator hose. Already addicted to the driving experience though and ringing the garage every day asking when I can have my car back.

Don't know what happened but recently woke up with an irresistable urge to own a Ferrari. Can't seem to shake it so am planning to find a 360 Modena within the next few months or so. This site is great and am learning much about buying and maitaining these wonderful machines.

    Hi Jack,
Sounds like we have a similar history. I saw my first Austin-Healey when I was a paper boy (13 yrs old). I saved all my earnings and bought the car, which hadn't moved in 12 years, two years later when I was 15. I rebuilt it and still own it. Ferrari's were always a dream for me but things worked out well and I was able to buy a 308 last year. Carburetted, of course! Let us know when you get yours and make sure you post lots of pics.

I also buy and sell houses on the side, if you want a nice rehab near Ravens stadium send me a PM :). My earliest memory of cars is being driven around by my nana in a '75 Stingray when I was 3. I love Corvettes. But Ferraris I love more. I bought a G25 wheel and GTR2 so I could drive a 360cs on my computer. It's as close to the real thing as you can get on a monitor. Anyway I've been reading a lot of threads and I like this community a lot, I look forward to posting with you.

    Ciao all!

My name is Gorka, I'm a young Spanish tifoso currently studying for one day become a Ferrari engineer (why not?). Thanks to Pininfarina I have been able to discover this amazing Ferrari community. I hope that we all enjoy together our passion, our lifes in red.

Unfortunately I have no Ferrari (yet) but I'm very proud of being part of this big family in which you don't need a car to be called a tifoso/a. Last year however I went to the San Marino GP and visited Maranello... today I'm still shaking. Oh! I also have a letter send by Mr. Domenicali and two pics hand-signed by Michael Schumacher after I wrote a letter to each man. No Diecast, or cap will never match the value of those letters for me.

Anyway, thanks for letting me be part of this!

PS: After the ridiculous deccission the FIA took, I opened a petition online just as a guest book so we could know how much people were against or wanted to express their opinion. Here is the link: http://www.petitiononline.com/g5a507/petition.html
