    Currently have a 2012 r8 spyder. Have always liked 458 but out of my price range, but prices seem to be dropping. All my sports cars have been bought pre owned. I just hate the idea of getting killed on depreciation.

    I found this

    Used 2012 Ferrari 458 Italia Base in Shrewsbury MA | VIN:

    2012 458 yellow 6k on the clock asking 209k. Is yellow a less desired color. It seems pretty loaded, but hard to tell, not a lot of detail on it.

    If I could pick it up for 200k, would that be a good deal. I assume it would have the maintenance included.

    I would probably sell in 3 years. Would it be hard to sell a 2012 3 years from now. What might it be worth if I put about 5k miles a year. Would 160k be about right?

    PM me, I have someone I can recommend that can help you find a very good car at a great price. He charges a flat fee. He helped me find a red 2013 458 Spider last summer at wholesale price.

    Regarding the color, I would think yellow would be a harder color for resale purposes than red. If you can find one with racing carbon seats that would completely load that car up. Good luck on your search!

    We have a yellow one in the club, it is stunning. As for the price, it depends on the options. All they list is the standard stuff; have them send you a copy of the sticker.

    I don't think you would loose resale in purchasing a yellow F car. The 458 looks nice in yellow. Like the others said, I would look how the car is optioned. This could add 75 k plus on the list price. I noticed it has standard seats. That would hold me back on purchase. Its a buyers market on the 458. I would find one fully loaded one for 200k price range . I don't think it will come with a warranty unless the dealer gets you one. 2012 you are prob just out of manufacturer warranty...good luck, you'll find a gem somewhere!

    I think 200k is fair for that car. it has free maintenance until 2016-2017 but no warranty. I would suggest getting a ppi first since you are buying it without a warranty and not from a Ferrari dealer. Resale is tough to predict. For myself I figured the car might cost me at least $2,000 a month in depreciation over 3 years driving 5,000 miles a year.

    The car looks pretty well equipped from the pics. I think the only way it would be a bad deal is if you didn't buy it. Good luck with the hunt. :)

    Are you keeping the r8 as well? Trade in value of your car will also determine how much they will sell the 458 for.

    Yellow ferrari's are stunning in person and is less common. If you look at their marketing materials, Scuderia shield, corporate color schemes, packaging, and the latest commercial (Shell?) and you'll find lots of yellow color. I personally think 'easy resale red' is a myth. If you look at the 300+ used 458's now available in the U.S., the red ones are in much higher competition with each other. Very few yellow. Options do matter. Owning a 458 without the race seats is kind of like riding a horse without a good saddle! A dream car has to be special to you personally; what others think (resale, right color, etc.) is just noise. You owe it to yourself to see the Ferrari in yellow; no other color is nearly as bright and dramatic. It is the only color that looks particularly good with carbon fiber. I think it's cliche to own a red Ferrari (I am sure many will disagree).

    If you look at the 430's with relatively low miles, resales are still very good. No reason to think otherwise for the 458's. Records, maintenance, options, are the key to keep resale high. Who knows, you may end up keeping the 458 forever. I plan to unless the 488 replacement is a naturally aspirated mid engine! (Not holding my breath).

    Mind is in yellow (Giallo Modena) with almost every interior carbon fiber option. This is an example of what I mean.

    The standard seats or the slightly better Daytona seats are okay. The carbon fiber race seats are very special ($10K-15K option). They save lots of weight and are manual - no electric motors to break down. Clean profile, and the support is second to none! If you plan to track the car, the race seat is a must! I also find them more comfortable in all driving modes or conditions.

    I bought it a year ago after an 18 month national search - used 2010 with 11K miles. Perfect paint, bodywork. Interior is like new. After a week long hard negotiation and lots of creative deal making (trades, financing vs. cash, etc.), I got it for $191,200. I specifically wanted a 2010 or 2011coup, yellow with carbon fiber interior and seats. (The laFerrari bridge was installed afterwards by the dealer). The 2010/2011 cars sound different and are much more 'aggressive.' I highly recommend you to listen for yourself. The only think I wish I had was the Michelin tires. The car came with a brand new set of the OEM Perrelli P-zeros.

    If you are serious about the 2012 car, you need to think about the battery. Ferrari's OEM batteries are not very good. A 4 year old battery will go anytime. A new OEM will cost $650 installed. I would recommend other brands: Braille, World SourceOne, Interstate, etc. Li-ion from Braille is the best.

    What car did u have before the 458. I drove a yellow 458. Not sure what seats it had , but compared to my r8, not as comfortable.. Not sure if I will track the car.

    I've had 2 911's before the 458. The 458 is far better in every aspect. There's something about the undeniable physics of rear-mid engine cars and the legendary race history/knowledge of Ferrari as implemented in the software controls: clutch/transmission and engine management that make Ferrari what it is. Without owning one, one will never fully appreciate its depth and allure. 911's are great cars in mechanical precision but it will never stir your inner self, your soul, the same way. Rear mount engine in the 911's don't track very well - too much compromise and compensation required - almost impossible for a nonprofessional driver to get to its full potential. The 458 makes all of us a better driver in spite of ourselves! You've got to love Ferrari for that!

    Then of course without needing explanation, The Pininferina styling on the 458 is probably the most beautiful street-going Ferrari ever made. Aesthetics have always been the forte of the Italian culture since the renaissance. It's only befitting that the 458 is named after the country, Italia! A 911 Deutschland doesn't quite seem as operatic, does it?

    I have Daytona fully auto seats and the seat warmers are a great feature if you have a Spider driving in cold/mild weather.

    Agree. Boxster/cayman looks much better. Of course 458s take a back seat to no one in the looks dept.

    3 years of 5k miles per year is sort of high you may get killed on trade if you buy a low mileage car to start with. The maintenance that is free on 2012+ is not that much to begin with. Also if a car did not get its services exactly as required that can be lost forever. I'd rather buy a 2010 or 2011 that is eligible for some Ferrari extended warranty than a 2012 with a few free services left and not warranty eligible.

    I can't imagine what 2012 r8 goes for on trade as new model is out. Have you gotten some quotes?

    i test drove a 2010 at algar and they were giving a very nice price but the daytona
    seat dont work for me ,my head hits the ceiling and the visor is in my face.
    i had to lay back which i hate that feeling.
    So i will get a car with racing seats.

    I agree. But for me, it always reminded me of a Karmann Ghia TC. Which is not a good thing. Good luck in your search!

    Porsche has always been proud of its mechanical achievements - from giving birth to the original Volkswagen ideal (an inexpensive car for every person) to the 5 decade long refinement of the 911 Carrera. Styling never seems to be much of a critical design priority even for the halo car - 918 Spyder which is basically looks and drives like a well made 'machine.' It's consistent with the German culture in design and the arts. No country has ever come close to the Italians in its seemingly innate ability in creating beauty: in fine art, music (esp. operas), architecture, sartorial designs, and dear to all of us Ferrari owners, Pininferina. When supercars these days all come very close to mechanical 'perfection,' the only differentiation remains in styling. e.g., every mid-engine design has a side air vent - McLaren, Lambo, Porsche 918, Ford GT, and the new market entry: Acura NSX as if there's no other way. The 458 is the only exception; the design disallows disruption otherwise caused by the mid-side air vents. I also admire the lack of rear spoiler, a dictum in the Ferrari street car design. 'Histrionics', no matter how 'macho' it may look to an uneducated teenage boy, seldom lend sophistication to the overall aesthetic appeal as they create distraction to visual sensuality. i.e., the oversized spoiler on a 911 Turbo. As long as men remain to be objective and subjective judges of beauty (cars, women, etc.), whatever looks better (not necessary runs better) will rule the day. We love our Ferrari's for precisely the same reason. We 'marry' a 911; we have 'affairs' with a Ferrari.
