It's the same with the 488 configurator. Ferrari just don't put any effort into their online configurator anymore. Just look at the 488GTB vs. 488 Spider confugurator. One has two tone leather as an option, the other does not. It is what it is and don't expect Ferrari to update it.
This is how I'd do mine mostly. Would be interested in having the aluminium parts in the interior anodized in black or titanium dark grey. Wheels not black either but dark grey. Looking at the configurator i'm sure there are many more things to be added as there are currently no carbon fibre options at all.
It's possible they are not posting a half working configurator, but have simply moved the rest of the treats as exclusives to the more costly Taylor Made section to keep this cars price down.
That's what I have been told. In the UK to match a fully loaded FF spec with the new colour options and Cognac Leather as well you are well over £300k by a long way. Why not one has to say, it is the flagship model after all. If this particular club was cheaper to join........would you?
Oh I'm all for this Lusso being more money, I fully expected a 15% increase over the FF, in spite of the clamoring idiots who said it needed to be cheaper. It's odd however that they're doing it this way. Just make it what it is in the config. There is no cheap one and options are what matters to most people and to Ferrari.
Not sure £300k is that much of an increase. My 2012 FF is something like a mid-spec car and it was over £280k. Four years later and a majorly updated model, another £20k for a mid-spec Lusso would be ok in terms of retail price point.
Also, I noticed that the renderings they have used for the configurator are awful. The real car is so much nicer. Unusual for Ferrari. The animated 488 Spider for instance looks quite representative of the real thing.
I have been told that UK List price for the Lusso will be GBP £230,400. Options prices are imminent. The 2015 FF was £238,697 but that included the Pan Roof which was made 'standard' but charged for. My guess is they did this to use up the stock of Pan Roofs as the roofline would subsequently change. So take away £10,560 (previous Pan roof cost) and the base price of the FF was £228137. So the Lusso has an increase of £2263 Pounds. The big question is of course, what you get as standard, and my guess is not a lot!
Also good for earlier FF residuals IMO. My dealer says people will look at the Lusso, and see the £300k price tag and they will find the FF an attractive alternative at almost half that and it will keep values up.
The online configurator is really not aimed at "owners, or really serious buyers". While it's clear owners and prospective clients go to the site, it's more likely that 99.99% of the individual (online, web) configurator users are using it as entertainment. Since developing and maintaining an online platform takes time and money, plus a LOT if IT cost given the nature of the application, it makes little sense to make it complete. It's a brand-building and marketing tool. Also, in reality, 100% of (actual) new Ferrari buyers will have to go to a dealer, and will have to spec a car, and they can access the dealer's system (which is different, more complete and better). The configuration tools for Tailor Made are more design tools than simple rendering tools. Last, as we experienced with our last few cars 1) the online configurator is very incomplete when it comes to options 2) as a model is released, more options are released, and not all make it onto the web tool (FF Pano roof was an exception, there are others) and 3) the permutations of options (option, materials, colors) is enormous. I do believe that the GTC4 will have more options included as "standard" (this also happened with the FF in 2013, and the 458 near end of run in some markets)
Fair enough. The point I tried to make is the REAL options people want are not part of the limited options in this config. Thus the price is up approx 15% as expected for a new model.
Strange the configurator is so lacking. I would hardly call it a configurator - more a visualizer. There is a Product Manager who's responsibilities include maintaining and updating specifically the online configurator. Nobody is expecting a Dealer grade UI, but it would be nice to have a few more bells and whistles. This configurator is a light-version of the Dealer "Atelier" spec. Tailor Made an entirely different product service, has nothing to do with the "strategy" (if you can call it that) of the configurator... Tailor Made is about personalized material choices, unique combinations etc. _not_ available through the Atelier selection!
Had the opportunity to spend a good bit of time with the Lusso and came to the following conclusions from as near a neutral point of view as I'm able. Front good, clean, aggressive, generic of 488 wide mouth frog look. Not sure about the indent in the bonnet, it looks machine made with sharp edges. Sides, vents appear too large and slightly out of proportion to the front wing area. They look ok but not wow and the shield is placed too high as if an afterthought. Rear, looks ok from dead astern but more estate car looking than the FF. From the front looking back over the Dallas style haunches is not its best angle. Still think too much going on. Inside, seats are comfortable but much less to them in bulk. They feel mass produced and could be from any premium car. Steering wheel smaller with 4 more things on it. Indicators better. Infotainment after a while is too big and dominates the facia, too much unnecessary info and very distracting. Ok if you update Twitter, Facebook or any of the other sad pastimes of the fragile mind but in a Ferrari.....? The passenger display allowing the passenger to fiddle with all and everything will no doubt cause a few arguments, nothing more irritating than someone fiddling with things when your trying to enjoy the drive. The repeater was fine but to have a second control centre is utterly pointless given it is mainly concerned with trivia. All in all a great car despite my personal concerns but not light years better just different. Will I get one......probably but not yet.
Thanks for your impressions. Your view on the seats give me pause. After the engine and steering wheel, those rate pretty high on my needs list for a GT at this price point.
I largely agree with you. I like the Lusso but I want to love it! Its growing on me but quite slowly. I also feel the interior is bit more Mass market, the switch gear a little more 'plastic'. The seats are a bit flimsy looking and lack the bulk of the FF. Will be interesting to see what seat options arise? Maybe a Comfort Seat more a la FF?
