Is the original nut/bolt coating on a 250 GT/Lusso cadnium or zinc. I have a variety of coatings on a project car so it is of no help at all looking at them, unless Ferrari used whatever whenever. Do the majority of restorers lean to one or other coating.
    Thanks.....The Red Baron

From memory they are cadmium, but being a 60's Ferrari, whatever whenever is probably more likely. If you are looking at a particular area of the car, let me know and I can check for you.

    Lusso64,
I am currently concentrating on the brake units. In fact the whole unit looks like it was metal coated at some stage. Any info you have would be appreciated.

Warren, Which actual parts do you mean by brake units? If it is the calipers, then almost certainly they are cadmium coated. If you mean the booster units, then I'll have to have a look..... but probably cadmium also.

My understanding is that brake parts in general get the cadmium treatment. There are companies that can perform cadmium coating of all break parts for not too many $$$. I know some of the race guys have calipers cadmiuim coated as it helps with heat dissipation and also has that nice yellow/gold tinge.

Anyway, I'll check and get back to you.

    David,
I have all the brake unit apart. Resleved the booster units, putting in new pads, cleaning all the outer housing and appling zinc or cadnium, etc. So every piece of the brakes has been disassembled as has the rest of the car. I reckon the biggest piece besides the chassis, which has been dipped 3 times, would be the size of a dinner plate. I trust I dont have to many pieces left over. Anyway if you have pictures or such off a lusso they would help alot.
