    Interesting posts. I built alignment tools using dial indicators to insure exact trans and engine alignment. It would be OK for a while but since everything is mounted on rubber and with large "alignment" holes, everything would go south with time. This was well before lasers were common
    The CV joints (which are heavy) are better, but that added rotating mass would make the transmission synchros have to work harder when shifting.
    The final solution, torque tube, was right.
