I have just spent a week with the big but not too big Benz sedan with the new CDI diesel. I am used to big D's that sound like a bunch of loose parts, the thing is quiet, so quiet I almost didn't believe that it was one. there is a slight turbo lag but it is consistent so you can adjust for it but HOLY CRAP this thing hauls As$. cruising at 70 foot down and and and pow away (the and's are for the turbo lag). all that and almost 40 mpg stunning example of why our German Friends are the best at this...
In the almost ten years I sold MB's.....we would consistently sell only 6-8 new diesels a year in an entire city of almost 1mm people......all to previous diesel clientele BTW. It's a shame as they really make a great product in the e-class turbo diesel car.
