whoopsie, lol, just read the title and thought it would be the newest M3, that one might weight that...but damn its ugly!
Why would someone put an engine like that in an E30 M3? Correct me if I'm wrong, but what makes the E30 so special and iconic is it's awesome balence and control. The engine, while great, wasn't exeptionally powerful, but the handling was what made the car really shine. I love the E30 M3, it's one of my favorite cars. Shoehorning a massive V8 into the front end just kills the appeal, in my opinion.
LS1 into an old m3! HA interesting conversion, it'd light up the rear tyres easy as.... Speaking of which, anyone heard of ac schinser and alpina, they do conversions like that, or so i've heard
AC Schnitzer doesn't do crazy stuff like that, i don't think anyways. i mean just looking at their new line of cars (bmw 6 and 7 series, cooper S, X5, and Z3), its mostly just body mods and no performance to back it up. Alpina *i think* does some engine swaps. i think Dinan is bigger into that sort of thing
I agree, Putting an american V8 into an E30M3 sounds sacrilege to Bimmer fans, but it is a cool option for a track day car. Buy a blown M3 with good chassis and do the rest. The OHV engine is cheap, powerful and easy to modify/maintain. A couple of tuners (Hartge, Matthes, etc) did shoehorn an M5 (M88) engine into the E30 chassis. Alpina (which is a manufacturer, not a tuner) also put a 3.5l sohc engine in the car they named B6-3.5 and B6-3.5s (M3 chassis). That is a nice car.. all considered, I don't think an alum V8 weighs much more than the inline 6 it originally came with.
AWESOME! I can't get over the angle, at which the front struts will be preloading the tirepatch. I bet front control arm bushing wear like no other; and wheel travel is like 'nill' ?!?!
E30 M3's On the subject : I like that car eventhough its no longer M powered. Must be sick on the track.
actually........the US variety 2.3 S14 is rated at 192bhp and only a few pounds lighter(20-30lbs) than the E36 M3 S50/52 engine which are rated at 240bhp.........it's a pretty common swap, a few of them with superchargers and turbo's............. about a year ago I saw the first LS1/BMW swap into and E36 this is the first E30 I've seen, crazy stuff.......we're talking 300+ hp out of the the box, from an engine that's smaller and lighter than the I6 in the E36M3's.........not too expensive either, the whole swap can be done for about $5-9k+/- these guys do the swaps....http://www.vorshlag.com/
