After power down 2 days ago, my e-mail system in the desktop got messed up. I turned off DSL modem, wireless router, & computer & re-set to factory default. (zap P-RAM, too)

This somehow enabled the e-mail function to only the half. I can receive but I cannot sent out e-mails. I cannot even sent out using Webmail.

If I connected directly connected DSL modem & a desktop, everything is fine.

If I looped a router into the chain link, it'll wok for while, but eventually I cannot sent out mails again.

Could anyone tell me what I need to do? (Re-store all system softwares is an option, but there's too much other installation which will take at least 4-5 hours so I'm trying to avoid that) Do I need to buy another router to replace the current one? Or any software fix-up for a router should take care of this problem? (I don't know how,,,)

Thanks in advance for your input.

not even webmail? sure about that? gmail or mail2web.com ?

questions for you - does the router give out dhcp addresses? does the outbound mail provide an error message or just not able to connect to the outgoing server? otherwise, I believe the outbound mail server is set incorrectly or not locally.

Is the firewall on the G5 on or off?
Try to change those setting to see if anything changes.
Something else you could do is try to download Eudora and try to see if the problem will fix itself.

    Cheers ilo

Thanks Randy & ilo for advise.

I was on the phone w/ SBC for 2 hours, but they couldn't help after all.

Randy, how would I find the router is giving DHCP address? Whenever the mail is trying to be sent out, it'll take about 1 min or so, and the message pops up saying "the server failed due to overload, down, or too much traffic". This cannot be true since it's going on for 3 days now.
What I cannot understand is that everything was fine until the power down, and G5 has gone through this few times before, but made recovery.

ilo, I will try change the setting (it's been locked on) then download Eudora. I used to have Eudora on G4 HD, so I could transfer it to G5.
