I know this is a stretch, but does anyone have one of these? I haven't unplugged my MBP from my screen in over a year and was thinking of selling it and getting something with a bit more power. I can get one of the first gen Mac Pros for about the same as what I could sell my MBP for. Would I be better off buying a stock first gen Mac Pro and upgrade the ram, video card and hdd or buying something a bit more recent for what I would spend upgrading it? I'm not finding anything in my price range, except for the quad cores.

    Don't do it just yet.

The Mac Pro is way overdue for an update and is likely to happen very soon. Wait for the new one.

I ended up going for the high-end Mac Mini. I wish Mac would make a mid-range computer with no screen. It'd be a waste to get an iMac and there is no way I could afford a new Mac Pro. I got a mac mini that is twice as fast as my MBP and I'm selling my MBP for what I paid for the mini, win win in my book.
