You guys may already know about this deal and if so you can just delete it or whatever you want. My son just purchased a new Macbook at the Apple store in Southlake, Texas. He showed his TCU ID and received a $100 discount for students. He was also able to get a free IPod Touch for purchasing the Macbook. He had to pay for the Touch and send in online his rebate but we should have the price of the Touch within the next 14 days.

He did not get the Macbook Pro. If you purchase it you can get a $200 rebate.

Do not flame me about the Macbook. He is a music performance major and the Macbook works better for him than a Windows system.

I have no affiliation with Apple or any of the stores who carry them and get no renumertion for this. It just seemed like a pretty good deal to me.

I just bought a MacBook Pro (great computer btw) and passed on the "free" ipod touch deal. Apple holds on to $230 of my money for a month interest free, they wouldn't apply that amount to an iphone, I have no use for an ipod touch, don't know anyone who wanted it, didn't want to bother with craigslist/ebay.

Had it truly been "free" (no purchase/rebate), I probably would have taken it, and Apple could have shown another unit sold on their books! not like that's a problem for them right now anyway :)

I currently have a unibody Macbook (2.0ghz) with 4gb that I could sell for $1000. With educational discount, a new Macbook Pro and iPod Touch would cost me around $1750 after tax. I could sell the Ipod Touch for $200, get $250 back and essentially get a new Macbook for $300.

I was ready to go and do this, but being unemployed it just didn't make sense.

My sister just bought a MacBook for school and got a free canon printer (100$ mail-in rebate) and a free iPod touch.

    Not bad!

    MacBook Pro $1199

Take the student discount of $100 or $200 and it makes for a pretty sweet deal. Our son wanted the Touch for use during giving some of his private lessons. Worked out pretty good for him.

I did it back in July.

    MacBook Pro: $1499
    Student Discount - 100
    iPod Touch 230
    iPod Touch Rebate -230
    iPod Touch to eBay -150

    Total $1249

Saved $250 for being a student, can't really complain.

Back in August of 2006, I purchased a white Macbook and got a free 2GB iPod Nano. They seemed to have really upped the free stuff in the past 3 years...

Why would you get flamed for a Macbook? They are great computers. If Apple is still doing this deal when Snow Leopard comes out I'll be looking at this pretty seriously.

I did a similar deal with an iBook G4 and iPod Mini about four years ago. Both the iBook G4 and iPod Mini are both still going strong and have been virtually issue free (had to replace the iPod Mini's battery using a $17 kit I bought online).

If you buy a mac now you only have to pay $10 for snow leopard when it comes out, anytime after it was announced.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm also waiting in the hopes that they'll make the matte screen an option on the 13" MacBook Pro (currently only available on the 15" and 17"). I don't really need a new computer right now, since there are currently five working computers (two Windows desktops, one Linux desktop, two Mac laptops) between me and my wife.
