After 9 long days without a Ferrari in my garage, (sold the 348 last week), I bought Ryan's (Sherpa23) 355 yesterday. Now the wait for it to arrive! However, here is what I want to say; buying a car from a fellow F-chatter is better than working with someone you know nothing about. I have purchased 3 F-cars prior to this one. Each time I had no knowledge of the seller and each was a blind shot. This time I have knowledge of the seller, his passion and character. It makes a hugh difference. In addition, I know who the tech is who has done all the major work on the car. That is critically important. I have read Dave Helm's advise to others many times and he is, without a doubt, a stand up and knowledgable guy. Being able to get his input adds to the confidence I have in the deal and the car. So I want to say, thanks Ryan (Sherpa23) and Dave, it's like working with people you know. Thanks FerrariChat (Rob) for creating a place for us fanatics to gather, meet over the net and learn from each other. Now, the anticipation mounts!!!!

348s and 355s are fine entry level Ferraris. But, maybe you can get a "real" Ferrari with 12 cylinders one of these days!

Thanks, Scott. I bought this car from a fellow F-chatter with Dave Helms' help and I will never buy Ferrari without Dave's input. The car has been absolutely spectacular to own.

This 355 is the best car I've ever owned and a superb introduction to Ferrari ownership. I am sad to see it go but since I never get to drive it and we have some changes coming up in the family, I figured that it was time to sell it. It really bothered me to have such a great car just sitting in the garage. As I mentioned here before, I bought the car to drive and enjoy, not to take to dinner or impress people. Since I no longer have the time to do all the things that I used to do, I have pared things down to just the Ducati race bike and my TonyKart race kart for the time being. However, I know I will get another sports car pretty soon.

Although I am sad to sell it, one of the nice parts is having a space in the garage that needs filling and searching for what will fit in that space. After spending a couple days with Bobafett's daily driver, I have some ideas.

For what it is worth, I think it is pretty cool to keep our cars within the community with people who appreciate and love them. Your (my) 355 will be well cared for and loved. Thanks

I'm one of the non-owners here, and I'm with you. Beyond continuing my 'education' regarding these cars and the marque in general, I'm also learning a lot about the members here and the way they care for their cars. I can guarantee that when my time comes, I'll either buy from one of you guys or Martin. It just kills me that I can't take a stab at getting Jerry's azzura 328, but the time just isn't right yet.

    Cheers, guys.

Congratulations! Ryan's is one of the most beautiful 355s I've seen! I hope that you enjoy it and it treats you well. I would love to see more pictures of it, as I've only seen the one that Ryan has in his profile.

Hey congrats, I looked at that car before Ryan got it. It seems like a really nice car and I hope you enjoy it. I bet the wait is killing you, I have a car 7 days in transit and can't wait. John

    JSL,

I agree with you completely. I will not own a Ferrari, that Eugenio will not work on. Maybe someday we can prevail upon him to take a select group of his customers and learn to work on our 12 cyl. Ferraris.

I am not even sure I would keep my car (1986 328 GTS) if Eugenio wasn't available to work on it, or at least answer my "stupid" questions.

    JSL,

I wish you the best of luck with your new 355. When I sold the car to Ryan, it was on the condition that if he ever decided to sell it, I would have first right of refusal. He dutifully offered it to me but I wasn't really in a position to buy it back (he was supposed to keep the car longer!). However, this should give you a sense of how much I cared for the car. FWIW, although I was on the other side of the transaction, I found Ryan to be nothing but honest and straightforward.

One thing you may not know is that your car was featured in the Feb 2000 issue of Forza as well as a book titled, "Italian Sports Cars" by Winston Goodfellow.

Although Ryan is very familiar with the car's history, please feel free to drop me an email if there are any gaps I can fill in. I had the car for 3 years and I'm still in touch with the previous owner of 2 years.

    Happy motoring!

    Rob,

Thank you also for supporting a great community. I don't post that often, but I do log on frequently. Even so, I've met many good people from this board and actually hired an aspiring Fcar owner I met through FChat to work for our firm last year!

    Thanks again,
    Tim

The fellow chatters know and have a wealth of knowledge of cars with history. It is great when we can help each other. It's great to see great cars passing to new owners here who will take care of the cars like they deserve.

Tim: Thank you very much. I didn't know that! It is a great privilege to have something so special. I commit to take the same care of the car. I know how special these things become. I had a genuine minor depression when the last one left. However, the new owner called yesterday and said how much he was enjoying the car, which made me feel much better. I have read he extensive service records and am thankful to have such a well documented car. I have great confidence in the car, Dave Helms and Ryan. I will email you off line to get a greater history of the car. Thanks so much for the offer. It is one of the great things about this forum. Good people, willing to share and willing to help out others. What a blessing. Come visit the car anytime you want. I just can't wait for it to come to it's new home. I'm preparing a new garage just for it and when the room is done, I will post pictures. Now I need to get that issue of Forza! Thanks so much,
    Scott

    Scott,
Tim knows the whole history of the car and has great recall. My memory is usually pretty good but I think that Tim's is better. Between Tim's input and mine, you'll know it all. And then you'll have an idea about why this is such a great car. It was with great confidence that I bought the car from Tim so I'm sure that a conversation with him would be worthwhile.
