Hi can anyone tell me size of security torx to remove MAF sensor..previous owner overfilled oil and I believe MAF need to be cleaned;/ Pictures coming soon!
It's not a torx screw. It's a 5 star TS15 pentalobe screw. See here. Pentalobe Screwdrivers 5 Point Star Torx TS8 TS10 TS15 TS20 TS25 TS27 TS30 | eBay
Thanks for the actual name of that screwdriver. I've been scratching my head trying to search for ages!!! Cheers!!!
If you did that when stranded on the side of the road out in the boondocks........... good for you. If you did it at home................. shame on you. If you're a home DIY mechanic, no need for Snap On tools. Go to a discount store or Ebay and buy a set of the least expensive specialty tools for situations like this; Torx, 5 Star, etc. The cheapest correct tool is better than the most expensive pair of pliers. For one or two hundred bucks you can add to your normal toolbox most of the specialty sockets, drivers, extensions, and other tools to properly turn the fasteners on your Ferrari.
Yes any hardware store should sell them. Don't use vice grips (the butchers pliers) unless a last resort. Alan
How would an overfill get to the MAFs which are earlier in the airflow than the throttle bodies and the line where the oil would get introduced?
I can't imagine that overfilling gets oil to the MAFs BUT its has been said here so many times and for so long that its now accepted as fact that it does. My car was according to my dealer "grossly overfilled" when I purchased it, fixed the overfilling and no MAF issues 3 years and 25,000 miles later.
I don't know the exact mechanism but indeed this happens with overfill..I should have taken pics..but when I removed air box about 4cc of oil fell out from each side then the mafs looked like they were dipped in oil...crazy
Shame on me? That's pretty a arrogant statement from someone I've never met. It's a simple solution to BS problem created by Bosch. These are nothing more than plastic screws. Take them out, throw them away, and put in common screws. There is no need to buy a tool you will never, ever, ever, use again.
I apologize. I see the light now. You'll be happy to know that this afternoon I've thrown away every tool I own except for a framing hammer. I would have kept a screw driver, but taking your lead I plan to do you one better by replacing all the screws in my Ferrari with nails. That will show those idiots at Bosch! It seems I've been a fool all these years using the correct tool for the job. How silly of me.
I agree, there seems to be lots of people who got up on the wrong side of the bed here today. Lighten up people...things are getting nasty here QUCKLY ! I half agree that having the correct tools for the job is extremely important, but I also drive my car so if a standard hose clamp works just as well as some fancy Ferrari only part, I will put on the hose clamp, i am not a "original" kind of guy, I am a what works kind of guy. Having said that, when the tool is cheap enough or easy enough to get, I would rather get the proper tools. My wife correctly calls me a tool whore as i have a LARGE collection of tools. Pliers (of any kind) however never belong near a engine in my opinion... No one saw me using pliers last night right ? luckily it was my daughters 96 BMW with 320k miles on it, so its trashed already.
