Nope simple math.

 

The neat trick that keeps people guessing is, each time you do it, the symbols for each number change.

 

Any 2 digit number can be expresed as 10 * X + y

10 * x + y - (x + y) = 9 * x

X can range from 1 to 9, so the universe of actual numbers possible from the calculation is only 9, 18, 27,...81; all the other numbers on the chart are not possible selections.

Y is irrelevant.
42 and 47 give the same result...36...ANY number in the forties will give 36.

Found out a while ago. Was fun until I figured it out ... about 10 seconds! lol

I use it VERY often to impress the ladies ... if she's not impressed and says "well, duh! look at the symbol that matches every time!", she is a keeper!
