I had an idea to use a strong magnet like a Neodymium 54 and glue it to the inside surface of the the front bumper. Then glue a piece of metal or another magnet to the front plate.

Hopefully, the magnetic attraction would hold the license plate when you were parked so you wouldn't get a parking ticket. Then you could remove the plate when driving.

    Has anyone tried this?

I am using 3M double sided tape for mine - not as easy to remove as your proposed solution.

Will the magnet have enough holding power?

3M make a kind of "hard" velcro which is pretty tough and reasonably transparent. Two x 1 square inch would probably hold a licence plate in position and the piece which remains on the bumper wouldn't be too unsightly.

I see that your in Malibu. Do they really give parking tickets for not having a front plate? That seems so wrong. You obviously have one on the back so I don't see the problem. Just more ways for the cities in which we live to take advantage. I think your solution would work. I haven't tried it because I don't believe that NJ tickets for not having a front plate, at least not while parked I believe. If you do in fact try I would love to see some pics. Good luck with your future project.

In Santa Monica and West LA , no front plate is a money maker for the city.

I have been using neomidium mags 3 years ago and they work great, you have to remove the facia and glue rectangular magnets inside and use circular magnets glued to the plate and soft velcro glued to the circle license mags to protect paint.
i have tested at 346 kph and no prob.

    Thanks!
I was thinking thinking exactly the same to use soft Velcro to protect paint.
Thanks again about the circular magnet shape advice!
