the 308 GTS used in the Magnum series is one of the most famous non-racing Ferrari ever. does anybody know, if they used just one car for the whole series or did they use different chassis-numbers ? if only one - what chassis number and where is the car today - country? owner ?
I think they actually used 4 cars over the life of the show - last being a 308 GTSi QV. Sure theres a thread on here to that effect....
There were at least three different 308s used, as the show was on the air nearly 10 years so they kept updating to a new model. Here you go: http://www.ferrariclub.com/faq/magnum.html Birdman
Try around 7 or 8 (if you include the met. green QV). I have looked at a few in person when they went up forsale. One was in Ga then went to CA. There also was another one I found in CA about 3 years ago but the owner was crazy on the price.
Are the DVD versions of the show available there? I have season 1 and 2 so far. But, watch the shows as the years progress, and you can see differences in the cars. The earlier 308's having the body color painted fender louvers, with no vents in the front/middle of the hood. No rear roof wing. While the later "QV" cars, have the flat black painted ones. Along with black painted vents in the middle of the front of the hood. And a black rear roof wing. Also, painted vs. unpainted "A" Pillars around the Windshield. Inside door panels. The earlier cars having the little "Pouch" and the later ones having a depressed bin, or whatever you call it. I'm sure there are more, besides the rear emblem. Either it would say "308GTS" "308 GTSi" or "308 Quatrovalvole"
i remember seeing a 1978 GTS that was used on the show for sale about 10 or so years ago. it had about 45K miles and the asking was 45K as well. john
Maybe I'm a dork, but how cool would it be to have one of the actual cars from the show, just for bragging rights?? I'll admit it, Magnum PI is cool Birdman
I remember reading a long while ago that they lowered the seating platform on the Magnum PI cars. Anyone know if there is any truth to that?
Slightly different picture, but I have a couple of copies that Selleck personally hand-signed/autographed for me... Image Unavailable, Please Login
There were of course several 308's used in the series over the years, and in some episodes if you look closely you will see a Qv in close ups and a 2 valve in action shots. I met a couple from SC a few years ago who bought one of the Qv's used in the show. Unfortunatly, it was the day after the car was totaled when they t-boned a ford suv that ran a red light.
I think more than once a year.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

I was behind the Universal Amphetheater about 6 months ago and saw a red Ferrari sitting in the distance along with a couple other cars that were once used in various TV shows. I took a closer look at it and saw it was a 308 GTSi complete with all the drivetrain. It still wore the metric wheels with what looked like the original tires! I didn't get a chassis number. I bet it's still sitting there.
I saw this same car the day afte Memorial Day, took a tour of Universal Studios, wondered same thing - was it or wasn't it?? Didn't look to be in real great shape, just sitting there outside, next to other TV show cars. Also, in post #14, with the pics, wonder if Magnum caught many bugs zipping down around, as with the phoo-phoo hair, LOTS of room for 'things' to get caught
i had to go and search it, he's listed his hieght at 6'3". this explains the not fitting problem and would forever preclude me from getting in the 308. funny though that i fit the mondial and i'm 6'5"
Now that you mention it, I think it had a Euro bumper. I remember wondering how I can take it off and sneak it out so I can put it on my car. It's a real shame the car is just sitting there rotting away.
Saw him on a Larry King type of tawk show many years ago, caller asked him about Ferraris, he said the 308 didn't work too well cuz he ended up staring at the visor/roof sill all of the time(is also why ALL shots of him in the 308 have the roof off - doesn't it ever rain in Hawaii ?? ). Anyways, he want on to specifically mention that if he were to get a Ferrari for himself, it'd be a Mondial, cuz he could actually fit in one of those.
I had to stop for a picture at the robins nest estate the last time I was in Hawaii. Image Unavailable, Please Login
