Allans frequent drives to the hot dog stand impressing 18 year old girls while racking up 76,000 miles; is NOT the Countach record. There are a "few" cars that have been noted to have 100,000 miles on the clock.
I'd love to tell you about good/bad with the Countach but I haven't really been able to drive mine since I got it last year. Car is at exitoc-car in NJ, motor out, clutch being done and misc stuff. So expect to spend alot and maybe you'll be one of the lucky one who bought a great car that you'll spned little.
Motor was never out of the car, all it had was one valve adjustment, oil+filter changes, and belt change. Stock clutch. I put about 40K myself in 3 years, As for the 800hp Diablo, Mark Carneys, VTTT, was dynoed at 690AWD Hp. Thats over 900hp, and he's owned it for years. It had some issues, but JRV fixed them.
Absolutely amazing stuff on your countach.Thats one for the books.I was speaking of a non turbo Diablo.
This thread is very encouraging! I don't know why I had in mind that a Countach was more finnicky and problematic than the Diablo. There was an 82' black/black 5000s with 29Kmi new clutch that went for $59k... does that sound right? Seems awfully inexpensive... Nick
Clutch replacement on the Countach is more involved than a Diablo. Purchase the best car you can locate. Remember: Any old 60K car with 18,000 in repairs is still a 60K car at the end of the day. You cannot do everything for 18,000 in repairs. This goes for any exotic. It may actually be a good car though. Do a detailed P.P.I.
Are you still thinking about selling your white/white? How long have you had it? How long did you look for it? Who did the PPI in Houston, or was it done somewhere else?
I have had my car one year. It took a year to locate my car. Never grab the first one you look at. (My search was not limited to just a Countach. I sort of backed into it! LOL. I am very happy to end up with it. It is so undervalued). What a beast. It ain't that bad to handle it. It does require effort. The car was purchased through A. Burtoni. It was a private consignment car. It was never advertised.
I realize that they are chain-driven, and I assume that you were referring to the AC or the alternator belt as you mentioned "belt change" on your post. Yes?
So you are saying that you did the valve adjusting and the change of belts by yourself in your garage then? If not, how much did the belt change (AC and the Alternator belts) cost you roughly? I too am very interested in picking up a late model Countach (God no, not the 20th anniversary) myself, if not now, than for the near future. So any input would be appreciated.
the alternator belt is $40, the AC belt is $5. It took less than an hour to change them both on my car. If you have the air pump installed, maybe a bit more. Anyway, nothing to it.
