Hi I would like to know the difference in cost when it comes to maintaining a 355 vs a 360. I have read a fair bit about 355 "engine-out" at 30K service. What about the 360, does it require an "engine-out" 30K service as well?

F69, no with the 360 the engine does not have to be pulled to change the belts, so this service is quite a bit less expensive compared to engine out 355 service. There are a couple of shop owners on board who might be able to tell you exactly. You might pm rifledriver or maybe he will see this and chime in with more exact figures.

The engine does not have to come out of a 360 for any routine servicing, generally only comes out if something big breaks. So far the motors in the 360 are looking more durable. The clutch on a 360 is more time consuming especially so if it is an early spyder. Overall the 360's are costing less at my shop.

Not sure about the independents, but the word from the local dealership is that it comes out to be about the same. The time and labor to take the seats, the rear panel etc. out is about the same as taking the engine out.

Ferrari of SF gets about 4500 for a 30k. The 360 seems to be a lot more together than the 355. A lot less maintenance.

Its just a dealer (and I suspect there are more where they came from) that is unwilling to give up the revenue provided by the 355.

Don't forget the fun little "extras" like valve guides and cam variators.

I have both cars and the cost is about the same, what you save on maintenance for the 360 (belts can be changed without taking engine out) you will make up for in depreciation and sales tax, as well as a higher purchase price. They are both very fun cars, the 355 is smaller and you can feel the difference in size when in the cars.

Thanks guys for your input. What about reliability issues? Can we presume that as time goes by, Ferrari are making better build quality cars - both interior and mechanical? It is widely claimed by many that the 348 has so many quality problems (even though many 348 owners said they don't really encounter them) and that the 355 has its fair share of headaches that can run up a huge bill. Has Ferrari greatly improved on those quality issues in the 360 or is the cars still too new to be realized? Also, are the parts for 360 more expensive than the 355 and that the 355 are more expensive than the 348?

Not on my Euro, I don't think. Maybe you've stated it before somewhere but is there any hope for a '99 Euro 360 to get variator replaced without just paying to have it done?

No, that is one of the offsetting costs to saving upfront on a gray market car.

Actually, one individual did get the parts for free from the original selling dealer of his Euro 360. That is probably the exception, rather than the rule, but it happened. I think it was PaulieB....He then had a local independant install them.
