Does anyone use any additives regularly? Fuel injector cleaner, engine restorer, oil additives, gas stabilizers, stuff like that?

I think that 285ferrari means that the "snake oils" are hardly ever used by people that know engines. If you need a stabilizer, additive, or God forbid a "engine restorer" you need to correct the problem that is in need of such a "band-aid". I did use a fuel stabilizer once in my ZX-6R as I never ride it and a $600.00 bill from the dealer to clean out the clogged jets afterwards detered me from ever using any "snake oils" again. Just drain your tank if the car will sit during the winter.

When I got my 348 last year, I added a bottle of Chemtech fuel injector cleaner to the tank. Very good stuff. I have complete service history with my car it has never been mentioned anywhere (that I could see) about the fuel injectors being removed for servicing. My car runs great and has around 25,000 miles on it, and I am sure after 15 years they have not been serviced. But car runs great, so added Chemtech and will remove and sonic bath clean injectors when I do the engine out major. :)
That will be probably be the only additive I would use in the car I think. :)

I don't know how F cars fair over winters, but I had left my boat sit for 3 years, put the gas stabilizer in when I put it up and on the second turn of the key, it fired right up. I let it sit for a year without stabilizer and again fired right up.

I think gas stabilizer is over used and I think that gas will not break down that much with just a few months of sitting.

I use BG products K-44 fuel system cleaner once a year. I get it from the Ferrari dealer. They use it in there cars that they service. I tried to buy it at a local brake/oil change and they claimed it was not available to the public.

I will use winter heat gas drier in the winter here to remove water/condesation.

Fuel Injector tips operate about 100C, and deposits form in the annulus during hot soak, mainly from the oxidation and polymerisation of the larger unsaturated hydrocarbons. The additives that prevent and unclog these tips are usually polybutene succinimides or polyether amines.

Try a search for Chevron Techron. Some guys really rave about it. I put some in my 355 but have not noticed anything yet as the next day it went in for it's major service and I have not gotten it back yet.

When do you anticipate doing the engine-out major?

Well........going by my service history supplied with the car, it was being done every 3 years from new. It was due August/September this year. I was just going to do it to keep with the 3 years and just for the hell of it. :p The car has done around 5000km since the last major in 2003. The brotherhood told me I was crazy to do it every 3 years and to wait for 5 years. So I guess another 2 years mate. I have 2 really good mechanic mates that are always telling me to hurry up and do it, because they want to help. So I may do it one day soon, just for fun I think. :)

I would imagine that using lots of additives is not a good thing, but will admit I occasionally use the Chevron fuel injector cleaner, and Lubro Moly Ventil Sauber (intake valve/fuel injector cleaner). I have heard good things about the BG product fuel injector cleaner as well....
