As the months have gone buy in the past 2 1/2 years, I've come to realize that there's much more to 'supercars' than just all out speed. I have absolutely loved all the cars I owned but some are just plain easier to drive, to get in and out of, to take care of and to enjoy. Going extremely fast is not all there is!

Soooooo...... Last Tuesday, July 3rd, I sold my 2004 Carrera GT and the 2006 McLaren SLR. I then bought a 2006 Ferrari F430 Spider (Red and Tan) and a 2007 Ferrari F430 Coupe (all Black) from the same dealer who bought my CGT and SLR. How was that for 4th of July fireworks???

My second son is supposed to buy the 2005 F430 from me this week. He has been wanting it for some time now. My initial plan was to sell the 2005 F430 to him this Fall and then I was going to wait and try and buy an 2007 F430 Yellow Coupe over the Winter for myself when prices might be at their lowest but this opportunity came up and I couldn't pass on it.

I was very reluctant to post anywhere that I sold the CGT and the SLR because so many car fanatics expressed their love of the Carrera GT and the SLR. I figured that many of them would tear me a new ****** for especially selling the CGT. My son was extremely POd that I was selling the CGT! I really enjoyed both cars but they just can't compare to the Ferrari F430 for everyday driving comfort, ease of use and resale value.

I sure there's a lot of you out there around the age of my son or younger, he's 30, that think I'm an idiot. But I was only getting each car, the CGT and SLR, out once every week or two. That's absolutely ridiculous! I'm sure having all my other cars didn't help too much either but both were a little bit of a hassle to get out and drive a lot.

The CGT and SLR were not fun getting in and out of, especially for us 'older' guys. The rear visibility is pretty impaired on both compared to the F430s. Getting in and out of a F430 is a piece of cake and visibility is super. Everyday driving is a pleasure. Push the start button, push the R on the console, back out of the garage, flick the paddle and you're off and running. Plus, the 430 is definitely smoother on the road than the other 2 cars I had.

So far I'm reall enjoying the Spider and the Coupe and hopefully next Fall, I would like to latch onto a 599 if the prices come down to being a little bit more reasonable. $200,000 over sticker is a very 'hard pill to swallow'! I guess right now I'm a 'true' Prancing Horse fanatic! Magwheel

p.s. Enclosed a a few pics of the new additions.

You did good, those Porsches have killed a few people..

But the F430 is much capable of the same, so drive careful and TAKE SOME DRIVES!

I like a guy who says, in response to 'open or closed?' says 'one of each!!!'...LOL!

    I bought a 599GTB last night...off the Hot Wheels rack....wacka wacka wacka......

A very interesting trade; one Porsche and one Benz for two Ferrari 430s. Since this is Ferrarichat I don't think you'll hear too many complaints. Good buy and I hope you enjoy the two, good luck finding a 599 later on.

Well I'd hate to see a CGT and SLR go out of my garage (if I had one :)), but I guess you've explained yourself very reasonably. Just one question though - why the change from 2005 to 2007 F430? Was it just because of the planned father-son transaction?

Sweet! I'll never understand why people get caught up in magazine test results, 0-60 times, 1/4 ETs, etc... Just find the cars you like to drive and get one (or three) You're a fortunate guy!

Beautiful cars. But one question, why not mix it up a bit? There are so many great cars out there, why have more than one of the same thing?

3 of the same car?? If its what you like wonderful more power to you..but a little bit of diversity would be good no? How about a Z06 or a nice GT3 to take the place of one of the coupes??

The F430 is a fantastic car, but I don't understand the point in having more than one of the same car. Why not keep the Spider and sell the coupes for a 599? :D

That's a fair question that has been asked by others a few times. Since I love the F430s so much, now I can drive one when the temp is 60-80 and let the breeze blow through the lack of hair I have. And then when the temps are real hot or real cool, I got the Coupe to cruise around in.

BTW, I'm hoping to somehow wiggle my way into a 599 late next Summer or at worst by early Fall next year. And.... I will still keep my F430s! If I sold another one of those, I wouldn't be worthy of belonging to FerrariChat, now would I?

Having more than one of the same...... Ummmmm..... Would you turn down having two Pam Andersons? Mags

I think that sums it up very well. I don't think you made a bad choice at all. You have a nice variety of cars there and you work hard so spend your money anyway you like. That being said, if you need any help exercising any of your fleet please don't hesitate to call. Nice cars.

Holy #%! Awesome collection there, I think I need to get into that small business ownership thing :)

Of course it's all personal preference, but I would vote for adding some classic car with soul to your collection. Could be a '60's Ferrari, or Detroit muscle (Hemi 'Cuda, etc.)

I can see you must be torn in the morning..which one to drive?? Oh the agony of decision :) :) :)

Awwww, I'd LOVE a Carrera GT... But that's me, this is you. Congratulations on making the decision that will ultimately give you a better experience with your cars, best of luck with all of them.
