So, after a long and involved process finally got the 348 back from it's major service. Took 9 weeks to get it back and I'm still not sure why. Engine in & out timing belt etc etc. had a crack in R side radiator but all good now! 3 day holiday weekend as you all know was constant gray and rain so looks like SCS might be first meet and greet for this season in Bannocburn. Then again, might rain again........

I would really have liked to say that I was impressed and happy about the experince but with only two places left now that Euroquipe lost Kurt, it's a great thing that the majors are only every 3+ years apart! In the future I would only head South or do it myself.

Congrats on a successful major! Now enjoy!

Where did you have it done?

When you say "only two places left" did you mean Continental and LFSC? I ask for future reference.

Yes, those are the two "official" Ferrari certified facilities. I had mine done at LFSC.

My 456 has been at LFSC since Dec. for a major, and I STILL don't have it. Plus, I already had started dismantling - removing the belt covers, air boxes, drained the coolant then had it flat-bedded to LFSC because I did not have time to finish it.

Mark, sorry to hear that you are even more delayed than I was!,, I have to say again I was really dissatisfied with the customer service. Did I mention on the way home the battery light flickered and had to put it on the charger for 24 hours too. You would think even the small things would be looked after. Sean is the service manager, call him, find out who the contact person is and unfortunately you have to stay ON them!

Majors are a major turnoff. After the last one I sold my Ferrari. Had enough of being taken to the cleaners just for regular maintenance.

Try an independent. Greg and Joe Paulkner at Personalized Automotive Service in Kenosha used to work at LFSC. They will pick up and drop off the car in a cover carrier for a small fee. I have been using them since they opened in 2008 I think - good experience. They have done majors for me, new clutch, rebuilt suspension, and new radiator.

+1 Autosprint in Chicago is a good place also. When I had my major done by Continental, it was 2 weeks in and out. It included a radiator repair and AC work.

Yes, first and last at LFSC. When I got the car 4 years ago bought some parts there before I met Daniel @ Ricambi and used the parts interchange with Bosch! Had an alternator rebuilt in Arlington Heights, great job and cheap did the R&R myself, etc. I liked Jeff at LFSC but unless you are buying/have a "new" model it's my opinion they don't care.

Service isn't the only issue, even buying new from them is a challenge... One attempt that lasted for 8 or 9 months, and haven't spoken to them since (4 cars later)..

Seems as though they know they are one of the only options in town, and resting on that rather than conducting themselves as a sustainable business...

I honestly don't want to go on about it too much, not my style, but Phone call after call, and email after email went unanswered. Had I known in the beginning that there were other priorities I would have waited to bring it in. Likely it would have been the same thing then too. Delays are inevitable sometimes I get that but to be left hanging with no communication was really upsetting. I enjoy the concourse and some of the events but perhaps less PR/Parties and better service would go a long way for future business. I'd email them my suggestion but I'm sure it would be similarly unanswered.

Curious as to what the delays were for all of your services. Was it parts delays, just too many other cars in the shop before yours? Did something else break in the process or you added extra or found extra items to address? Didn't the dealers give you an estimated time frame? I guess I still love my American muscle, since I can do most, if not all the work on them myself. Even if brought to a shop the turn around time is usually days not months.

It started the first day actually, they picked it up on the trailer and I never heard back if it arrived? Had to call to find out it was there. Then it was something about a week of F1 training the following week so why start it mid week if it will be interrupted (10 days) then it was "new car prep" when cars came in that took priority (another 10 days), then they discovered that the radiator had a crack and had to order one (a week) which of course was for the left not the right side (re-ordered it again), then the radiator had to be picked up somewhere and someone had to drive to get it. It was going right in but... another week or so and I called on Friday and they said oh, it was done on Tuesday didn't anyone call? They said we can deliver it back to you when the "driver" gets back from a run in about a week. Clearly I drove out first thing in the morning to pick it up. All in all 9 weeks.

The worst part is that there was no communication throughout. emails went unanswered, text questions no word back, no straight story. Happy to have it home and it will never go back there. Oh yeah, and the battery was almost completely dead when I picked it up.

Okay, I'm over it! Beautiful day yesterday, turned the key and that low growl started. Pushed it into first no destination in mind and off we went. Found a bunch of sun dappled back roads and a few sunny open spaces. Had some lunch and found the long way home. Puts all the negative feelings of the repair process behind and just enjoyed the reason I got it in the first place. Ahhhhh.

I had all the same excuses, delays and lack of communication that you received. I still don't have my 456 that has been at LFSC for a timing belt change since December. The latest is that there is a misfire, caused by the injectors that I sent out to be cleaned and tested.
