Just dropped off the GT4 at Ferrari Technologies for it's 3rd major service since I've owned it. Major #1 at purchase. With extra stuff (exhaust, elec ign conversion) totaled about $7k Major #2 after 5 years of ownership, plus extra's totaled about $5700 Major #3 after 10 total years of ownership- ?? I'll update the price when its done. Should be done sometime next week. I'll be travelling for work, so I wont get a chance to pick it up until the end of next week. Can't believe I've owned the car for 10 years. It seems like I've put enough money into maintenance that I could have just bought a new LaFerrari It's all been worth it. I can't believe that you can have so much fun with a car. Met tons of people, and hope to meet many more. All for the love of a car.
Good stuff Dom. I hope other owners have half as good a Ferrari experience during their ownership as you appear to have had so far.
Seconded...good on you, Dom. I love to see those GT4s on the road. To heck with LaFerrari* (WTH is up with that moniker?...saw it this morning), yours has a ton of Ferrari spirit and soul. I've got some replacement parts work to do this spring, then am going to start with hiring out for majors next year. I can fully relate to your experiences with the car. Mine has also been a joy to drive, a great social experience and a great sharing experience. I wish you and the mighty GT4 many, many happy miles. (*LaFerrari sounds too much like a brand of frozen pizza or Tortelloni. Methinks they needed to have a meeting with the wise old sages from Pininfarina before deciding on a final model name. I would have been happier to see a number...I like numbers and they've worked in Europe for so long. When I saw the name "Terrain" on a Chevy vehicle not long ago, it became clear to me that Detroit's having a naming crisis. Where do they go from there?......"Trucky"?)
Dom, glad to see that you've had a good experience with Ferrari Technologies. When I was in college in the 1980's, I worked for the property management company that owned Larry's building and most of the surrounding properties. He was still on West Collins in Orange. Any chance I could get, I would drive through the back parking lot to check out the cars he was working on. When a shop has been in business for this long, they are definitely doing something right for their customers!
I realize that my brain has been rewired when I read this. Before my Ferrari ownership the cost of service would have kept me out of ownership forever. Today I look at those numbers and say, "wow! That's not bad" 10 years is a great milestone. I hope there are many more years and many more new friends.
Great to see people hanging on to these cars, and taking care of them. My 328 is now having its second major since I've owned it. First one was at purchase in September 2006, done at Euroquipe in St. Charles, IL, and cost about $5800 with all the extras needed to make it perfect. The seller split the cost with me. Second one being done now at GT Motorsports in Pewaukee, WI (GT Motorsports - Ferrari, Maserati, & Alfa Romeo Service Specialists). Will probably cost under $3500. Haven't spent much else on the car over 6 1/2 years. Maybe $200/year on average for fluid and filter changes. $400 for some radiator hoses, $500 for new tires. That's it. Knock on wood!
Major Service is Done!!!!!! Cost (including a bunch of extras like paintless dent removal, shift shaft seal, etc) came to $6400. As usual, Larry at FerrariTechnologies did an awesome job. It was such a joy to drive back. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
