The thing that I think is ironic is that this is Ferrari-Chat. This is the place that we come to to dicuss Ferrari and related problems. It's kinda funny that there are all these unwritten rules of protocol.

Sometimes just adding a word or two can make a huge difference. For example I was re-reading all the threads I could find about 308 gear crunch for a couple of weeks. Lately a thread was started and the wording of that question made me realize the answer to my problem. If that new thread about a subject that had been equally beaten to death hadn't appeared, I would still be clueless.
    Anyway, Merry Christmas.

    Umm,
Weren't you the one that chided me for intolerence when I posted something similar about 4 or 5 belt threads back?

BTW, I'm on a 5-year belt change interval as well.

As to the guy that asked 'why can't Ferrari build a non-interference engine...'

I'm like Rifledriver, I suspect Ferrari.spa knows a little bit about high-performance engines & like to build them the way they do. If you found out why, they'd take a contract out on you...

Now that you've triple posted, there is no need to show your EE diploma. I can't think of more concrete evidence. (g)

There was a comment early on about Ferrari's being high revving cars and therefore may require more frequent T belt changes as a result.......(the 355 revs to 8500 rpm).
The NSX I owned prior rev'd to 8200 rpm (where the rev limiter kicks in) and the red line was at 8000 rpm. Originally in 1993 the belt change interval from the factory was 5 years or 80,000 klm. About 4 years ago Acura issued a
bulletin changing the belt changeinterval for the NSX to 6 years or 120,000 klm and this was retro active to all prior vehicles as well.
It should be noted that all NSX's from 1991 to 2005 share the same part number for the tbelt and that these cars are also hot running mid engined cars......
So I don't believe that the revs are an issue here. I think that long storage without starting the car can stretch portions of the rubber tbelt and the best way to prevent this is during winter months.....to start the car once a month and run the car (highway drive if possible) till it reaches full operating temperature. In other words you are massaging the belt.
Me, I will honour the 5 year interval and change the motor oil twice yearly regardless (if minimal mileage is driven) and 'massage' the belt.
I think Ferrari believes (and are probably correct) that these cars are stored for very long periods without starting and this is why they have changed the interval to 3 years.

How does one go from a EE to a Geophysicist??? Man! (Then again, I went from a EE to an Ocean Engineer to an underwater photographer. How's that for giving up the suit and tie?)

Start out as a EE major - flunk out of college because soldering is more fun than calculus - worked for 8 years in satellite communications - re-entered college at age 27 - discovered geology while waiting for a diff-eq class in same classroom - changed major to geology - took a geophysics class - realized that geophysics is engineering AND geology together - changed major again - graduated - got great job - 25 years pass - still like to solder. :)

BTW, nice job on the suit-n-tie dump.
