Making a Stradale lower dash

Bit off subject , but how is your 500hp plus engine build going ? I'm certainly going to investigate some engine upgrades .

 

Thank you , lets see a complete one out the mould first . I have never done resin infusion before .

 

I wasn't happy with a shape of the lower dash , when we used the LHD passenger side on the RHD mock up . So we scanned the LHD lower dash inverted it and then 3D printed it , much better . So now we almost have a passenger side on both sides .

An update , finally the RHD dash parts arrived . I have stripped off the leather and we are busy assessing the differences since we now have both a Modena and a CS dash .
We have manufactured two CS end molds and are about to glass the first side on . I am surprised how little we had to shave off the end in length . How ever I may be wrong as we are using the vent hole as a datum and this may be different right to left . I will test fit in the car with the door cards to make absolutely sure before the dash goes for covering .

LHS end of Modena dash modified to CS spec . Top dash is RHD Modena with added on piece CS dash LHD underneath . We are busy molding a airbag blank so we can check the profile to the CS lower dash

Some more progress , both ends of the upper dash have been converted to CS spec . Top dash is original CS LHD , bottom dash is converted RHD . Lower RHD drivers side convert to CS spec ( including the bit we cut off ). CS center section that needs to be fitted . Then the airbag blank , so we can get the rest of the lower dash lining up properly .

LHD or RHD ? Which bit ?
Airbag blank is easy , LHD and RHD seem to be the same and its just the " SRS Airbag " logo changes sides and is heat printed afterwards as the original airbag backing is plastic and you can see the distortion of the heat in it . I took a mold off my LHD one and it seems to fit perfectly into the RHD dash .
The airbag module is heavy , great weight saving . I gutted the original housing

 

Bit more progress , passenger side needs some detail work where it lines up with the upper dash

I have now chopped the 3D scan of the RHD lower dash into section and will start printing

Pretty happy with the quality , just need to tweek the slicing a bit as it was still a 2.5 hour print at about 400mm/sec

Hi Trev , never thought of making the whole thing in carbon , that will look impressive. Your car is LHD , so I have a mold already
Once I have sorted my plug for the RHD lower dash I will look at making carbon heater control surrounds to go with the lower dash .

 

Tonight's project to print the end cap that goes on the piece I have already printed
