hi guys i m new round here, so anyway, i ll get straight to the point i m driving a 98 355f1 spider and i have a problem (obviously) while driving, suddenly the transmission warning light started flashing. while pulling sideways, i noticed i was unable to make a gear change and at the same time the engine oil pressure came started flashing as well. when the rpm dropped below 1500 the engine stoped basicaly now, i m unable to start the engine, because my transmission is stack to 5. the transmission warning is still flashing and the oil pressure is still on. i filled up on engine oil and gearbox lubricant, but still nothing. any ideas of what the prob might be and any possible ways to overcome? thanks in advance galvert
For starters I suspect you may have overfilled your motor oil so I would not start it until some is removed. The system will do exactly as you described if there is a serious failure. One of the items they do consider a serious failure is an open hood and drivers door. Ck the operation of both of those switches and ck the fluid level in the F1 hydraulic system. If neither of those get you anywhere have it towed to a shop that has the equipment to diagnose the system and don't forget to tell them you filled the trans and engine oils.
hood = engine compartment, IIRK, right? A local 355F1 driver had a similar problem and the contact switch had simply gotten to gummy.
i forgot to mention that the engine oil level was practicaly at a dead low. i had to fill up somthing like 5 ltrs before i could get it to min. at room temperature of course so i guess i might have overfilled it a bit. that apart, i also had to refill the steering hydraulics for it was below the low indication. i ll check out the transmission hydraulics tommorow evening. funny thing is the ferrari technicians checked everything less than a month back, including fliuds, and didn t find anyhing out of order thanks for the reply mate.
WHOA... Stop. The engine oil is massively overfilled. It is a dry sump system (I guess you could call it that ) and the oil level can only be accurately measured according to the owners manual -- with the warmed engine having been just stopped. A stone cold motor provides a useless measurement. Now that it's overfilled, your best bet is to drain it and start over. I will defer to other more qualified Fchatters regarding the hydraulics.
Check you Engine Oil "IMMEDIATELY" after it is thoroughly Warmed up; 150+ Degrees. I check mine Monthly & have yet to Add any Oil.
One more thing... when you drain the oil out, take a moment or two to ensure you're draining engine oil, not gear oil. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
