Malta and Amalfi Coast cruise Ponant

Anyone who's been to this area would love to hear your suggestions. Will be with Ponant. Been wanting to try them since we saw their small ship on the Monaco harbor during the GP last year. Waiting on flight now.

Just checked in, beautiful hotel and view. Stay here if possible. View from room and senior redbull drink after 3 hours sleep. Headed out with a private guided walking tour.

Prior to the trip our agency hired a personal tour guide for us. I'm glad we did as we learned so much more about the history of Malta, and the ancient city of Valletta. The city gateway of Valletta is only 100 meters or so from our hotel. I'd recommend this hotel. Ask for a corner suite as it provides a panoramic view. No balcony however.

We are but a dust in time, Malta will help you understand this. Although Apostle Paul was ship wrecked here in 60 A.D. , we were told the history of man here can be traced to around 7000 years. I think we recently saw something on Netflix about this, ancient civilizations.

A few more from our tour. Very safe we are told. The Vice Minister walked right by us with one other well dressed man. They have filmed many movies here including Gladiator. They are setting up filming of Gladiator II now.

A few more from yesterday ending with dinner at a resturant frequented by locals. On the other side of the cargo ship is where they are building the Gladiator set.

A little more Malta. We hired a private driver and tour for the day. Malcolm was concierge for 15 years at one of the local hotels so he knew everything. At the end of the day we did horseback riding on the Cliffs of Golden Bay while the sun set. Very rocky and somewhat dangerous. My wife's horse fell, luckily she nor the horse seemed hurt. The owner gave her his horse while he walked.
