Is there any diference between comfotr and sport in terms of gear changes and acceleration ? I know sport affects traction controll, allowing a little bit of slip.

If you are in Auto mode, sport will shift sooner. Shifts seem similar though so if there is a difference I can not tell. And in manual mode, if you are not paying attention and hit the rpm red line it will shift up as if in Auto mode. In Sport, and hit the red line the transmission will not shift, just lets the engine bounce off the red line.

Depend whether you have magnaride suspension options. Of you have magnaride, the suspention is much stiffer in sport mode. There are other differences concerning the computer inputs that control for understeer, oversteer, braking etc. There are also differences with transmission but these will be almost imperceptable in a dual clutch car. I like driving around in comfort mode cuz the ride is much smoother as I have the magnaride option.

I agree. Also my car upshifts much faster/earlier in comfort mode.

Yes, my 2010 has quicker shifts and more aggressive throttle response in sport mode.

That's interesting, I can't pick a difference between throttle mapping for the drive by wire accelerator between the two modes

    What do you notice specifically?

On a side note, there are slight differences between the two modes to the exhaust flap opening

In sport, it opens the flap so it is louder at either/or low rpm or load

I drive in Sport/Manual mode 95% of the time. Throttle response is definitely sharper.

I have been playing this afternoon after reading this thread and really don't notice any difference in throttle response and shift speeds. Comfort mode softens the ride really good, and of course affects the shift RPM in Auto mode significantly, but I never use Auto mode. I made a series of accellerations (THANKS TO psmirnow FOR STARTING THIS THREAD!!:)) and really don't see the difference in shifting nor throttle. My CL550 has a HUGE difference in throttle respone, not the Cailfornia.

I guess I need to pay better attention tomorrow. Still no snow, just salt up here so I can have some fun trying the two.

Maybe because my car is an early model, the is a marked difference. For a start in comfort mode you cannot redline and stop about 500/700 revs short where as in sport it does redline, also in comfort mode the downshifting is much softer whereas in sport driving hard, you get a much better matched downshift with a far stronger 'blip' simply not available in comfort. In short it is all together a far more aggressive driving experience in sport.

Does anyone think the steering is different between race mode and comfort mode?

On my M5, the sport button makes the steering "heavier" and gives the impression of less assistance

I have noticed that if I drive the Cali aggressively the steering seems to be lighter

I can't really remember if the steering is different between the two different modes, can anyone confirm their opinion

I rarely drive in sport mode, the suspension becomes very firm compared to comfort mode because I have magneride

I wish there was a separate switch that controlled magnaride, because I think the gearbox shifting is too "soft" in comfort

Tried it again on the ride home tonight and really don't notice any difference. Yes, in comfort it shifts short of the redline but still a hard shift.

As I remember, on the race track my instructor insisted on comfort mode to get started, then sport after a couple sessions. It seems when the car is pushed hard it tightens up the steering in either mode. It is very easy in the parking lot, but put it on the edge and things get harder, in both modes.

    From my experience:

Comfort = shifts at lower rpm in Auto, Smother ride with Magnaride. Automatic upshift when hitting redline

Sport = in Auto, shift at higher rpm, suspension much stiffer and exhaust more fun (louder). Redline automatic upshift gone.

I don't perceive any difference in Steering in sport, except any natural difference in having the suspension much tighter.

I usually tool around in Comfort. When I hit curvy road is switch to sport, then switch back.

do you guys find the exhaust note is louder in SPORT than COMFORT overall?

i know it is louder the more aggressive you drive it (higher rpm and throttle opening) but does SPORT provide anything more?

My perception is it simply depends on how hard you are pushing it. The 458 makes a marked difference with the setting, but not the Cali.

Hope I havnt missed this in OP's original post, but could it have anything to do with the fact your car is new 2012 model Rick ?

Maybe OP's car has older software and the reason you don't feel any difference like others is due to the fact that yours IS different.

I FINALLY noticed yesterday that the mapping at low throttle settings is different. It is much more sensitive in sport. I guess I never noticed it before because I am usually drive quite briskly anyway. My Mercedes CL550 has a serious difference, making sport hard to drive right. The Cali is done MUCH better so it took me a bunch of accelerations & decellerations to see it ... and THAT was fun! I really only notice it at part throttle.

    agreed

my 2012 growls more quickly in sport mode than in comfort, it is mostly just the noise
