I understand that. My point is, that plaque was not likely originally there, as it would have had upholstery glued over it. More importantly, I do not believe there was ever a Mangusta built that complied with all federal safety regs. Even the last Mangusta sold in the US had a sticker with a list of 10 or 12 items that were non-compliant, but exempted under the Bayh legistation. It would be interesting to know where the plate came from.
haha Denis, insomnia.... I sleep sporadically anymore I keep my laptop next to my bed and when I wake up, I log on! Gotta love the internet and these auto forums...with posts coming in all hours due to worldwide participants, I get fresh action anytime I wish I had play money and room and I would LOVE to acquire a goose like that one and attempt a sympathetic restoration on it where it is left with original patina...fear would always be rust related, and looks to me there is some to deal with on that particular car?
I admit I'm at a loss why they'd put a plate there, or anywhere. If its not original (and I believe you that it isn't) there's no need for it on a machine never to see the streets again.
Let's see where do you think..... compare. Hey it's a slick Sam Foose style job, take something from the same manufacturer, roughly same period and VOILA Image Unavailable, Please Login
On my car, purchased at 37,000 km (23,000 miles) there are remnants of glue from the stickers on the outboard sides of the muffler tips. So 4 stickers total. Mangustas are all handbuilt cars, they have subtle differences even in sequential cars. Exhausts were ANSA, 2 different styles (2 muffler with tips or 4 resonator type), still I would assume they be identifed the same on all makes as that would have been done at ANSA Denis
It may have been added to make it easy for scrutineers at the track to verify that the car was made from at least a portion of an original chassis.
The Mangusta had their VIN stamped on frame and may be hard to see depending on the final configuration. Hats off for a beeeautiiifull final product. and the VIN plate is just a tiny bit of jewelery to finish it off. Denis
Sorry for the delay but people seem to like my picture of the Mangusta track car, featured on the previous page, from Lime Rock last weekend. This thread is making my few photos of Mangustas the most popular of my flickr photos - so thank you. http://www.flickr.com/photos/24302083@N05/4962898059/
Guys I have posted before. I am looking for Mangusta 8MA-930. Pop up lights. silver exterior, green interior. Car was sold in Buffalo in the 70's thanks for any leads Retired
Car is in Provamo registry. Previously owned by John Bohannan in California. This Mangusta was green at that time. Your best bet is to send personal emails to Chuck (and also Dana/Mangusta intl) as some cars and details may not be in the published registries. Denis
Thanks I was the original owner of the car. was silver with olive green interior when new. The provamo site does not let you view owners etc. Do you know where the car is now?? I have some of the original documents the owner might like. thanks again
a friend of mine took this pic in the early 70's in Mexico City http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000752598422#!/photo.php?pid=186582&o=all&op=1&view=all&subj=137089716330331&id=100000752598422
fyi I am selling a difficult to find and coveted 'early' magnesium rear 15" x 8" 'Goose' wheel, just listed on eBay, not going to link it, but you can find it pretty easy I paid dearly over the past 1.5 years to put together a set and this one ended up an 'extra', they are not easy to come by and costly when you do, ask me how I know this wheel is in 'flawless' condition Image Unavailable, Please Login
Daryl, I hope you don't mind that I am posting the veloce today article that I just received, has a great detailed story of the birth of Mangusta - and features your lovely car! http://www.velocetoday.com/archives/11736
You'd think he was the only one with a hard approach to business. Still I'd rather have dealth with him than Carol Shelby....... to name just one.
I'm not so sure. There is a quote from Bob Grossman, who had to deal with DeTomaso as Maserati importer for the US, referring to DeTomaso as "just a very nasty little man."
Frank, I am the ultimate tease....fact is everything I own is in storage as my economic collapse plays out, in the meantime, car activity has pretty much been ground to a halt ....later, I promise
I hear you man, hope things start to turn around for you soon. I was just so hoping to see some great shots of her from this past summer. You should give me a heads up if you come down to Chicago, the guys and gals here are a fun bunch, hell there like a second family to me.
Frank thanks for the welcome and one for sure I will take you up on if I ever get out Chicago way... (many years ago I used to get out Chicago way a lot )...here is a photo to LUST after, just for you Image Unavailable, Please Login
Denis...ALL blacked out, even exhaust tips are polished stainless powder coated black for about 10" or so, but it is a different story inside the engine compartment..... here is a rear shot where you can see the exhaust tips go from silver to black, and the obviously very SILVER motor!
