So the black Goose that was for sale on eBay a few weeks ago was sold. According to the above thread details unmistakenly identify that car.

Hello to all...I have what I consider to be a Mangusta set of side glass. This being the two door windows and the two bananas right behind the "B" pillar.
Problem is, I want to be 100% on their veracity, and not offer something for sale that might not be right. Can someone help with dimensions and angles? After I certify original, they will be available.
Thank you for your kind help.
    Regards,
    Alberto

Other than dimension and profile, the most important identifying feature of the original glass would be the Saint Gobain/Securit Visterm logo which is found on all glass pieces, and shows the original date of manufacture. The door window glass will also have the tong marks from the tempering process along the rear edge.

The original design has double lights, in 1970 the US version was modified to accomodate headlight height legislation thus the 2 headlight version. Technically the 2 headlight cars are much rarer.

So, thinking ahead to next year, 2011 will be the 45th anniversary of the Mangusta debut. Who would be up for trying to gather as many Mangustas in one place as possible? I'd be willing to drive 8MA888 a significant distance for an event like that.

Daryl, since I am too much of a 'wuss' to drive my 'queen', why don't you drive yours to mine and we can start there :D

I do 'hang' with Steve B. of Carson City who has one and we drink beers and marvel that we have a full 1% of the world's population of 'geese' :D

Daryl, your idea sounds cool. I wonder where and when the most Mangusta's have ever been gathered together?

Thank you Denis, the measurements match.
I also made a scale template and overlayed onto a Mangusta on the web and they match.
Does anyone have any interest in the glass?
Maybe e-bay? I ignore if they are rare items.
They have a few scratches here and there, as not new, but can be polished.
I have the glass in El Salvador, traveling to the USA this week. Can take it with me...
    Thank you.
    Kind regards, Alberto

I am truly shocked at the DeTomaso (especially Mangusta) bashing that runs rampant, mainly here on F-chat. Some really rude opinions of the car and they all kinda sound like a broken record anymore. Are these people freakin' blind? I have owned 'em all, and some of the finest examples of 'em all, in all the world and I LOVE the Mangusta, I realize it was a bit of an engineering folly. Some of these 'experts' have probably never owned anything interesting, but not acknowledging it's amazing automotive artistic beauty makes them look the fools. I am also sick of the insulting and 'following' that runs rampant here. Think for yourselves folks and quit trying to come off like your opinion is anything but a 'gang mob follower' opinion and then insult the owners of these amazingly beautiful automobiles...I will continue to defend and challenge these overly bloated negative opinions form people that have limited ability to recognize a stunning beauty! I am engaged right now in the ATS thread, lol! :D

ps, I would never insult an owner of any vintage/exotic car, whenever possible. I once opinionated about an anniversary CT vs. other CT models and was called out for doing so, and I made it clear that I think ALL CT's are freakin' incredible cars - PERIOD and I was just discussing the little changes/differences in models and pointing out the best of each series...etc. and my opinion of such, and would NEVER insult any motoring enthusiast for their choice in autos! Others are not so nice. :/

Thank-you Mike for putting in writting what I have observing for some time now. I, just like you LOVE my Mangusta, it is not as perfectly manicured as your and a very good driver, still many little items to fix, but I do drive it. Fast and far without loosing control. Too bad as stated that old reviews are still quoted or misquoted 40 years later. The writers should take the time to meet a few current/active owners before expressing/printing opinions. A few years ago a renowned automotive 'journalist' stated the Pantera was designed by Giuguiaro. Still we see people talking about the 'Isis' logo (Isis is the car not the Egyptian goddess, the logo is the stylised 'T' from the family crest). Gets me pumping everytime

Every car is different and taste vary a lot, but I don't beleive in "bashing" other posters and models. There is no perfect car out there, our tastes evolve, and owners, designers and manufacturers (Alexandro, Enzo, Bizzarrini et al) all had (have) their uniqueness. Good guys finish last, but politeness in public (or facebook, or forums) is essential. 2 years ago at Italian week met some people I thought were F-snobs, but you know stop and look at a car talk to the owners, ask the story, you might be surprised, and make a friend in the process.

It's Thanksgiving in Canada this weekend. Give thanks

I agree. I've heard my fill over the years, but here's one that will light you up. My Mangusta was invited to a very well known, high-profile concourse this past summer. I spent a nice day chatting with all the usual first-time Mangusta viewers and long time admirers who asked many questions and marvelled at the car. While explaining about the drive train with the engine lids up I have a slit tennis ball that I slip over the sharp corner of the leading edge of the hatch to prevent a distracted person from hurting themselves as they peer inside. As I pointed out the transaxle to an interested young man I saw a tall, heavilly tanned guy with very expensive slacks, shirt and straw hat approach the car with his hot young thing on his arm and two other similarly clad couples in tow. He was acting as the "tour guide" for his pals and sharing his "automotive wisdom". He had to know I was the car owner, and he spoke just loud enough for me to hear him as he approached. "And here we have one of the worst pieces of crap ever to leave Italy". Bingo, he got my attention and I excused myself at the gearbox discussion and welcomed my new "buddy". "That's pretty cold", I said, with a smile. The guy pointed to the tennis ball on the hatch and snickered, "What the hell is with that?" I started to explain and he cut me off with a condescending, "Hey, no offense intended, but these things were one of the worst designs ever foisted on the motoring public". "Hold on," I said, "that's a quote from an article you read. You really ought to look closer at one of these and make up your own mind." The guy looked around, saw his sidekicks ambling off into the crowd and walked away with a wise ass "Hey, really, it's common knowlege". It's guys like him that keep me going to shows with the car, answering any and all questions people ask and even letting them sit in the car to leave an accurate impression. There are far too many ill-informed know-it-alls out there who perpetuate or even aggrevate mis-information.

it's absurd Daryl...and when I mentioned I have owned 'em all, I don't want to be confusing, I mean OTHER cars like award winning Countach's, and Maserati, Ferrari, big Healey, loads of P-cars, multiple Alfa's, and I loved all of them, but when it comes to sheer stunning good looks, the Mangusta trumps them all....

ps, don't you currently own a spectacular collection of fine cars? Where do you see the Mangusta relating to other cars?

I'm shocked that you came across an idiot at an auto show ;)
Like all great beauties the Mangusta has had mythology spun about it. Frustrating, but most likely sprung from envy.
If this ever outweighs the joy of ownership give me a call and I'll take your burden.
    Jealous and admitting it,

Thanks for the kind words, but it's hardly big enough to be called a collection, and the cars are not show cars...I enjoy driving them. Just four cars that really impacted on me when I was young. Don't get me started on the Mangusta. It, together with the Ford GT40, had the biggest impact on me back then. The GT40 was unattainable, but when I read the articles on the Mangusta in the car mags I thought, "Wow! It's like a luxury, hand-made Italian GT40. Brilliant!" You have to put the car in the context of time. In 1969 when I first saw one in person it was parked next to the usual road-going Fords and Chevies of the day and nobody had ever seen anything like it. Only race cars were built that way at the time. As an architecture student I was stunned with the lines, proportions and details of the car. So much so that when I went to Europe to study the following year I worked my travel schedule to include a visit to the DeTomaso factory. I even did a design for a new DeTomaso factory as one of my student projects that year. I think the Mangusta rates as a very important milestone in car design. People are still impressed by it today. In 1966 it simply blew people away.

awesome Daryl, thanks for sharing that...I have seen the photos of your cars and where they are housed = spectacular! I also LOVE that you are a true Mangusta expert, your name has popped up often as someone who ought to be a 'spokesperson' for the model as like I mentioned earlier, many critics are just like broken records of negativity. I am stunned at the lines and beauty and look of the 'goose'. Please contribute and educate more here as these cars instead of being routinely bashed, should be heralded as a milestone of automobile design and we should be looking at photos of lovely examples as much as possible :D I see it too as a 'street/luxury' version of Ford's GT 40...maybe that is why the F-snobs bash it so much...that car kinda beat up on Ferrari!
