    is it that low now???

That is quite a bargin, considering my daugther just bought the 135i (e82) for around 42k (usd) - hers is brand new..

That is horrible depre. I remember when the E39s where in the 40s. . . BMW released the e92 m3 at the worst time it looks like.

fair enough. all the women in my immediate family drive manual as well.
The Gti is a good first car - very simple to drive and lots of fun for anyone really.
    ----------------------------------------------

AS for the RR i am surprized they have dropped to the mid 40s... The 4.6 HSE from i think '98 was one of the worst, just because of how much it weighted compared to its power output... slow loaf of british beef.

I just gave a bid (trade value) on a '06 RR HSE with 29k miles on it. I heard from the last auction they are going around 15-17K back a book, so to be safe I called three dealers and they all told me "book the car and hit 25k back a book, oh and if you want to resell it, cross your fingers"...ouch!!! That was like $23K for a Range Rover.

Wow can't believe what is happening to this sector of the market with large SUVs.

Did the customer go into cardiac arrest?

I ran into a guy today that had a leased 1 year old suburban and GM took him out of the lease and gave him a gigantic ($18K IIRC) discount on a new Escalade.

There are still a bunch of these huge sleds on the market that are not selling at any price it seems.

As a side note, I just drove my Land Rover LR3 from Boulder to Ft. Lauderdale. I averaged 72.1MPH which translates to 75-80MPH the whole time and I averaged 20.1MPG. It's not great but I didn't think it was that bad.

I used to have a fairly dim view of most SUV's, but have come around to a different way of thinking lately. It turns out that sometimes you really do need one. My wife and I actually just bought our first one this past weekend. As far as I know, there aren't any cars out there that would do all the things we were looking for. We had the following criteria when shopping:

    1) Must tow 5000lb minimum. We have a small Four Winns bowrider and need something to pull it with. Borrowing my father-in-law's truck and keeping the boat at the marina was getting old. I also have a propensity for wanting to tow home and restore old British cars that were last cranked in the Clinton administration. I can't pull them with my wife's Acura.

    2) Carry four to five people in reasonable comfort

    3) Carry the two of us and our four dogs in more than reasonable comfort (we like to take them lots of places...park, lake, PetSmart, ice cream shop, tailgate parties, etc).

    4) Carry us, the dogs, and a large assortment of bulky gear to said tailgate parties which are about 2 hours away, perhaps while towing the boat to use on the river there on Sundays after the game. A roof rack will come in very handy here.

    5) Preferably have 4wd, as some of the boat ramps around here can get pretty slick and make pulling out in 2wd difficult.

    6) Be able to carry 2 to 4 people and a large amount of luggage on long road trips, some of which may involve carrying skiing or camping gear. Again a roof rack is handy for times like these.

    7) Given the above considerations for the class of vehicle, get very good fuel economy.

    8) Be reliable. I have enough things to work on thanks to the Italians and the British.

    9) Be stylish and fun to look at. Why buy an ugly box when you can buy a cool looking one?

After also looking closely at the Hummer H3 and Land Rover LR3, we decided on the Toyota FJ Cruiser. I love the way it looks, it gets 21-22 mpg on the highway, has a suprisingly nice ride, KILLER stereo, tows very well, seems very well built, has good cargo/dog capacity, you can hose out the interior to clean it, strap a lot of crap to the roof, and it even has a cool little gimbal-like gauge that tells you how steep the hill you are climbing or traversing is. Thanks to the used SUV market being the way it is we got a flawless 2007 for about 56% of the original sticker price.

Count me as one car guy who also loves his SUV.

Well, I actually own one. 2006 Range Rover Sport, best new car I haver ever owned. I made a mistake and had a Hummer H2 before the RR and in 10 months it had 11 warranty claims, the Range Rover, not one! The exterior was pretty good on the Hummer, but the interior was awful and the mirrors were replaced 3 times. At my last service the dealer said they were going to replace the front differential and that was it for me, in 10 months I lost 51% at trade-in in 2006 on a 2005, ouch!

I have owned alot of new cars from Mercedes to Jags to Ferrrari's and I am happy with my RR, my next new car, most likely another RR....

I am curious why your ID on here has Dr. on it, all of my friend's that are MD's never use that term, I thought the only person that called themselves a Dr was a Chiropractor and we all know they are not doctors! (sorry, good friend is a Chiropractor and he lurks on here) I used to live near Colleyville, very nice area... Whatever you do, you seem to do it well!

Your stable of cars certainly speaks for itself!

I have had 56,000 trouble free miles on the RR, so far so good!

I'm curious, how do the 03+ Land Cruisers and H2's hold up in accidents? I've owned a number of 100 series Cruisers and always felt they were safe...but was always curious if they really were.

The pricing out there is truly breathtaking. I spend a fair amount of time off-road, so I always have a few trucks around. I've been offered some insane deals on SUVs and trucks in the last few months. Am shopping for another Land Cruiser and maybe an H2 as well right now....good deals to be had.

No offense, but if I was that customer, I would have laughed in your face...Then I would have got up and went and spent my money somewhere that took me serious...

I just MMR'd 06 Range Rovers just to see what they're bringing and it appears that even near 50k mile examples are still bringing $30k plus...a 90k miler just brought 23,300 across the block...

It is bad, but it's not the doomsday picture this joker is trying to portray...

Landcruisers and LX470s are much tougher. The H2s always blow out glass even in small hits. Otherwise not bad safety wise, just parts intensive and expensive to fix.

+1. I just MMR'd same, and SC's. Mid 30's for nice, low 40's for SC's. A dime on a trade is BS if you're a good highline store. Bad market, you could wholesale it for 32-33 if you were in hurry. I'd tell them to pound sand. can buy a lot of gas for 10k.
BTW, had old body 4.6 HSE, and a Calloway. Ran better than lots of cars, and were great off-road (I was one of the .001% who don't consider speed bumps and tall curbs off-road :))

    Good Dr.,

    Respectfully...

MMR is an program put out by Manheim (the world's largest automotive wholesaler). It has up to date statistics on exactly how much money EVERY vehicle that sells across the block brings, as well as mileage, condition, color, and location...

Now, In my post, I never stated my opinion that Range Rovers were worth more money than that joker at O'gara was trying to portray (which I do, it would be the bargain of the century at $23k), I simply stated the FACTS. The facts are, a good 2006 Range Rover with miles in the 20's is still worth north of $30k. I don't set the market, the buyers and sellers do that...

It's humorous to me that this guy is in the "High End" Automobile business. If I was in the market for Continental GT, I'd be on my way over to O'gara. He's got PLENTY of them and with "the current market" they should be had in the low $70k's... Hey, they only get 10/17 MPG! It would be humorous to see his reaction when the shoe is on the other foot...

Back on track...Unlike you, I'd be more than happy to "wear out my keyboard" cutting and pasting the proof to back up my claim...

    "08/05/08 DAL DLRS Lease $23,300 87,592 Below BLUE 8G A Yes"
    "07/31/08 DET METR Lease $35,100 38,043 Avg CHWTWHT 8G A Yes "
    "07/31/08 RIVRSIDE Regular $34,000 30,593 Avg BLACK 8G A Yes "

Tyler, I have an '06 H2 (white/black) that I'm thinking of selling now. Honestly, I love it (it's my 2nd H2) but it's a little too big for the wife to use so I was thinking about getting back into a car for a while. The truck currently has only 13k miles on it and has every option except for the air suspension. It has the lux pkg, nav, chrome appearance pkg, chrome push bar, tinted windows, remote starter and a Borla exhaust (it's not very loud but it has a nicer rumble than a stock one). I even have two headrest dvd's that I took out of my Touareg before we traded that in that I will send with the truck if I sell it, if the buyer wanted them. It really is in absolutely showroom new condition and the white looks great w/ the chrome and the tinted windows! The truck has never been to a dealer for anything other than oil changes and in my experience the most reliable vehicles I've had have all been American!! I've had BMW's, Audi's, a Lotus, Corvettes, Tahoe, Touareg (probably the least reliable), Hummers, a Viper, etc... and the only ones that were NEVER at a dealer for anything other than oil changes were the Corvettes, Tahoe and the H2's... period!

let me know if you might be interested and I can email you some pics.

    take care,
    Jamie

If you trade in an H2, a dealer will likely charge you a small disposal fee...nothing too much over what a salvage yard will charge the dealer to take the heap...

first of all, thank you for your positive contributions to this thread!

with over 10k posts I would imagine you would have a little more to offer this community than your constant put downs regarding anyone here who drives an SUV! We get it, you don't like them and you obviously don't like H2's. Enjoy driving your M5 (it's a great car), which gets pretty much the same mileage as my H2. For now I'll enjoy my truck. I would have loved to have bought an M5, unfortunately I needed a vehicle to put my two daughters in (both in cars seats still), drive year round in New England, tow my boat with, pack my whole family in to go to our lake house on the weekends, etc...

Also, I don't usually buy my cars new. I'll buy something a few months or a year old w/ very low mileage so as to avoid taking the big loss on the vehicle. I change cars often enough that it doesn't make sense to buy them new. So, that gorgeous M5 that you have would probably net you a $50k loss if you were to sell it now while my "heap" of an H2 would probably cost me $5-10k. oh btw, I don't trade my cars in... I've sold pretty much every car I've ever owned on my own and netted myself a lot more money than I would have had I traded them in.

Good luck in your future "ambulance chasing" endeavors!

For the record, I just sold my 2003 RR with 63k miles on Craigslist for $27k in 2 days. Prior to that, I had multiple offers in the mid-20 range as well. Mine was particularly nice with the luxury seating package (rare), aftermarket wheels (bling, bling), and an extended factory warranty. I did not have a single problem with the truck the whole time I owned it--flawless.

you took insult to him calling the H2 a "heap"? well it IS if you think about it... You pay 50-60k for a bilky low fuel mileage vehicle which at best, "looks cool" .. . The only true Hummer is the H1 imo and even that NEEDS to be justified thoroughly because it doesnt even seat 5-6 ppl comfortably... all these new ones are Chevy built and would hardly survive if driven in true off-road conditions...(mainly becuase of all the plastic.)

sides? i could care less about side, i didnt buy an H2 and probably never will (have no need for one really..)
