Mansell hits out at 'immature' Lew Senna Ham Former world champion and current driver steward Nigel Mansell says that Lewis Hamilton needs to 'settle down' and 'act appropriately' in the wake of a number of recent outbursts. Hamilton's on-track woes have been compounded by a number of run-ins with FIA stewards for his overly-aggressive driving - particularly regarding his collisions with Felipe Massa and Pastor Maldonado in Monaco. His latest outburst came at the British Grand Prix when he slated his team for a tyre decision that left him qualifying tenth on the grid and again after the race when ordered to conserve fuel at the expense of a podium finish. "Lewis is not mature and he's not got a head on him," Mansell told F1 Racing magazine. "I think he needs to settle himself down because the recent episode at Monaco was unnecessary and unflattering both for himself and Formula One. I thought his driving style was very poor because he had no respect for anyone else because where is anyone going to go? "To say that overtaking is impossible at Monaco, well... I've done it coming out of the tunnel several times... but then to say what he said about the stewards was appalling. I was very disappointed and he's got to remember that he has been a world champion so he should act accordingly and appropriately at all times." Mansell added that Hamilton ought to take a leaf out of fellow team-mate Jenson Button's book about the right way to behave as a former world champion. "Both Lewis and Jenson were both great world champions at the time and it's absolutely fantastic to have them both in the same team but Jenson, for me, carries with him just that little bit more maturity." ----- Lew Senna Ham's response: http://sports.silobreaker.com/id-only-listen-to-senna-hamilton-5_2264688824783208527 ----- Lew Senna Ham and Mclaren's spin team makes Rupert Murdoch look like a saint!
Maybe the hot head should do some listening. Remember we all have 2 ears and 1 mouth. Sad part is that the mouth usually does more work. Certainly does in LH's case.
Why does he always have to link himself to Senna? Each time he gets into trouble, Senna gets the 'blame'.
He's on your ignore list, but you choose to post in his thread ???????? Maybe try "ignoring" his thread , NO ?
I'm simply enjoying the told you so moments. Of course he is immature as a driver, he never listens or learns from anybody and with the team favouring him too much he never will. McLaren should have made him number 2 to Alonso. If they had he would most likely have won another WDC already and on his way to being a F1 legend, instead it is all falling apart. And yes there are things you can learn from the more experienced driver even if you beat him to the flag. If you are not learning you are not getting any better, and that blocking, er, crashing into Massa at Silverstone proves that he has learnt absolutely nothing. Should be made to sit out a couple of races. Pete
Careful Pete.... You are on the verge of being put on the ignore list of the Lew Senna Ham fan boy click!
If Mansell is so concerned with the dignity of former F1 champions, shouldn't he take Lewis aside and discuss it with him? Instead he makes a public spectacle of the whole thing. Perhaps Nigel needs to mind his own words.
Some of the "comments" at the bottom of the web page are funny, stevie g says July 19, 2011 8:10pm Lets be honest, apart from Lewis's debut year, year on year Lewis is in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Lying to the stewards, ignoring Ron's and team orders, insane driving both on and of the track (burnout in Melbourne), making ridiculous comments and bringing racism into the sport, joke or no joke thats offensive. Whilst Lewis is a good driver, lets not get too brainwashed people. F1 champions past and present have not acted in this way so why should Lewis. I know one fact, if Ayrton was still alive, he'd make Lewis look like driving Ms Daisy. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12479_7047277,00.html
Nigel is not Lewis's daddy and has no obligation to pull him aside. Lewis is an adult and should act more accordingly, F1 does not revolve around Lewis and the sooner he realizes that the better off he will be. McLaren should swap him for a year or two to Virgin just to let him know how good he has it there.
LewHam has stated that he would only answer to Senna. Now, we know of course that Senna has been dead for a long time so one can only assume that Hammy feels he answers to nobody. Actually, this doesn't surprise me.
Mansell did not make a public spectacle, he only commented on someone else's public spectacle. As a former WDC, and now an official race steward, I think he has the credibility to make these comments. Bottom line, what he said is 100% true.
I asked the same question in the "Words of Lew-Ham" thread... response made no sense so I just dropped it
I agree. If you watched Top Gear last weekend, where Vettel was interviewed by JC, Vettel did mention how much of respect he has for Michael, even if he laps him. he pointed out that Michael is a legend and that there plenty of things he can learn from MS. That dude is on the verge of being the youngest double world champion, and yet he's so humble. And Lewis only listen to Senna. Utter bollocks.
Same old same old BS.. Somethings never change, why so much hate for one driver, I'll never know. It's pathetic.
True, some of it is in fun, but mate you have to admit that the way he stopped Massa getting passed at Silverstone was just wrong. He only did not get penalised because he is an English driver. If say Massa had done that to somebody else Massa would rightly have got told off. Motor racing is NOT supposed to be a contact sport. He was passed and it was all done and dusted. In the end I wish that for the rest of the season when ever a reporter put a microphone in front of him he would just say "No comment, I've got work to do" and stop this utter bollocks that comes out of his mouth. He talks with as much sense as a teenager and it does not help his image. Fast driver, but not the full package. Pete
I think Lewis has a great deal of talent. I do think however, he has a bit of growing up to do. There is something that separates him from every other driver on the grid, and that may be the reason for some of the irrational hate.
No hate from me as I think Lewis has more skill than he probably realizes at the moment and Senna did say once "If you are not going for a gap you are no longer a racing driver". On that note I will add that when Senna said those word's he had not really imo become a thinking man's racer but that soon changed and again that is just my opinion. That is what Lewis need's to become asap because as young as he is he will reap the rewards in the future. See alot of the flack Lewis gets for his on track antics I believe is because he could have waited another lap or two while sizing up the most appropriate and safest place to pass instead of letting his emotions get the best of him. The driver in front is in his own race aswell and that cannot be taken away from them as they all want to atleast finish the race. I'm not flying the Union Jack just blabbering incoherently as usual. ps, Remember that heart rate thingamajig they had years ago? If I'm not mistaken Michael had the lowest which means he was not getting excited or irrational but was thinking and calm. Just an after thought.
