Kids will post the craziest online auction bids, but **payment** is another matter altogether.

To open an ebay account you need a credit card, the problem is those $20 mall gift cards have a VISA number and a three digit security code on the back so ANYONE can open an account. These gift cards are a major loophole for kids gaining access to porno, gov't says get a c/c number from them, so they do, the fact that 13 year old Johnny is using a gift card grandma gave him to open a porno account is a problem no one has figured out how to solve w/o slowing normal commerce.

MicroSoft and Charter are rolling out a cable/internet two-way video-phone next year. At some point that sort of service will become ubiquitous, and by that time the on-line auctions will figure out that they need to initially screen/verify the bidders for high-profile sales.

The real estate market screens out the tire kickers and crazies from the serious buyers by asking for a surity deposit or whatever they call your payment that goes with your bid. That sort of fee should be charged to all high bidders in on-line auctions and applied to the purchase.

The serious bidders suffer no harm from that fee (because it's applied to the sale)...but the tire kickers, crazies, and jokesters get burned (if they use a real credit card) or filtered out (if they use a mall gift card).
