I have had mine ('90 Turbo R) for 16 years and a I love it. It is the archetypal "drawing room on wheels" - you sit there in your nice comfy chair in an ambience of connolly leather, beautiful walnut veneers and gleaming chromed fittings, and waft effortlessly from place to place on a wave of torque. Goes pretty well for a two and a half ton car and doesn't handle too badly either, but don't expect it to be other than what it is - the ultimate luxobarge.

Not cheap to run, alas - parts can be a bit pricey (although the cars have depreciated massively, parts have not at all!) and servicing / repair is often fairly labour intensive. Make sure it has been regularly serviced by a reputable specialist, that everything works as it should, and that it is free of rust, as bodywork can be expensive to fix.

In fact, correcting myself, last year in Monaco (from where I write), a manual HGTC Superamerica sold for 860k euros which is $960,000 USD at the exchange rate of the time. Very close to the million mark, and we don't know if private/dealer sales have broached the million. I can't find any LFAs for more than the above. 575s have an amazing price range, as this is more than ten times the price of a good, non-FHP, F1 equipped car.

I used to have a blue (very pale, almost silver) BMW (bought on a whim, sight unseen, from an on line auction - now long gone). Great bike:

R100RS! That was the bike that made me fall in love with BMW's. A neighbor bought one in Harvest Gold somewhere around 1977, and I just loved the sport touring concept.

I still have my first Beemer, an 1994 R1100RS. A bud of mine and I customized it pretty radically. You need a 34" inseam just to flat foot a stop because we put the GS suspension on it.

Just a little (!) but it's fun! At least nobody on this forum seems to get exercised about it. Sometimes it's the threads that go OT that are the most interesting ones.

Yes, though bluemotorbikechat.com is washing out my on topic posts about SA prices and the interesting comparison raised by a fellow poster about single clutch LFAs, which I imagine quite a few of us, including me, were unaware of. I'm slightly exercised because this is a long-running thread - one of the best on this board - which tracks the rise and fall of the market for the last four years, and if it can drift off into anything, it will become banal. Of course, there's nothing I can do about that except keep posting on-topic information, hoping someone replies, beyond the (very nice but irrelevant) motorbikes..

Very few S.A. manual HGTC cars were built. The low production #'s created excess demand.

Imagine all the money you save when you don’t need to service all the nine other 575s that you could buy if you didn’t buy the Super America! So quite a bargain in the long run!

There's also a huge spread in asking prices for very similar spec and condition vehicles. Many of which have been openly for sale for some time.

The market really is all over the place at the moment in the UK.

Why buy without the chance to drive, let alone do a PPI, and absolutely no come-back, when there are plenty out there which you could buy in an orderly fashion, with the backing of a dealer's reputation (for what it may or may not be worth) or even a warranty, unless you are going to get a major discount to compensate for the risk of buying at auction?

Why would someone consign to auction at such a high reserve, when the marketplace is full of cars that, as John says, are sold with checks and warranties? If it were a unique car in some way, maybe, but it's just one of many. I understand consigning at auction if you are desperate to sell in a quiet market, but that would need a low, or no, reserve. And now the owner has to pay to take it back to wherever it was. Odd!

It's like paying full retail for a private sale in my mind.

All things said with the market in the state it's in now that probably wasn't a bad bid.

I simply don't understand the buying or selling at auction unless it's something especially rare that has a potential worldwide audience and is worth Millions.

Worse. At least with a private sale you can check it out properly, have a PPI, etc.

Seems like the car has been sitting for awhile or maybe the dust is from other stuff in the garage. If it's been sitting and with not many records I think 95k is too much.

Dropping this in from the 575 manual thread. According to my notes, this price takes us back to around late Q2 2015. There were several good looking 550s for sale with teen and 20s miles, UK RHD, in the UK with prices in the 80s in Q1 2015; by Q2 they were asking up to £100k and cars like this were priced as this is. And then, Maranellos disappeared, for a while.

If this car actually sold for something near asking price, it's an interesting indicator. I think selling prices have been at this level for a good six months now, not going down, but asking prices make for little liquidity.

Darius I have a feeling low mileage 550's peaked somewhere north of £100K. I was watching the last Brooklands Historics Auction where they were trying to sell that nice Rossa Corsa 550 and the auctioneer did say "These were selling for £150K 18 months ago".

This also sold the day it arrived at The Ferrari Centre. https://www.tfcgb.com/previously-sold/6886069-ferrari-550-maranello-maranello/

I was told it sold at £100K (last month). I can confirm it looked like new. I had a good look around it when I went to see a couple of other cars down there. It really is a lovely example.

    EDIT:- Found one. Oct 2015, 28K mile Verde Zeltweg 550 - £150,800
