Hello everyone, I just thought we should start a thread about Marcello Gandini in this Lamborghinichat section given all he contributed to the brand. We could include any sort of material, videos, pictures, articles, etc... He is a very private person so it is very difficult to find, hence interesting to share. I had the idea while coming across this wonderful interview done by Davide Cironi in which Mr. Gandini explains some of the creative process that went on for the creation of the Miura, Countach, Espada. This is an absolute must-see and thanks a lot to Davide for having done it. The sequences with the late ing. Stanzani are also a fantastic insight and make us understand better how these two great men worked together. Hope we’ll be able to create a great resource all together!
I just watched this yesterday as well. It was a great interview. Davide always does great work with his videos. Definitely worth watching.
I watched the video this morning at work, I was transfixed, a great clip from Davide and well worth watching. Gandini's genius and talent should never be underestimated, nor Nuccio Bertone's timing in taking him on in the first place... some things are meant to be. A few photos to help the thread along a bit... look how young Marcello looks in the period photos... Does the Miura P400S in the video have a P400SV bonnet on it? The left and right extremities of the front grille opening are rounded as on a P400SV. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Amazing talent and in his early 20’s. I think his youth, imagination and gutsy approach in his design is what transfixes us today.
I noticed that, although I'm not sure that's actually an SV front hood, the aperture does not look quite wide enough, and the opening is a bit too tall vertically. Marcello Gandini is the only person to sign a Lamborghini I've owned (LP400 1120110), I was lucky to meet him in person once many years ago, I think his benchmark designs, Miura & Countach particularly, are peerless automotive design brilliance. A portrait of the master @ home in his studio. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Must have been a fantastic moment! Talking about signing one of his creations, here is the master signing a Khamsin an an Urraco.
The Citroën BX (1982) was a very good car, very comfortable with its hydropneumatic suspension. You can still see some of them on the roads in France. The design was based on the Volvo Tundra (1979). Both "Disegno di Gandini". Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Surely already known by the Countach lovers, but I think it is worth being posted here! Fantastic interview done by Ruoteclassiche, an Italian classic car magazine, in which Mr. Gandini was asked to draw their cover for a designer series. He explains why he chose the Countach, and why it still is futuristic. The video is a true jewel! http://ruoteclassiche.quattroruote.it/notizie/copertine-dautore-a-maggio-tocca-a-marcello-gandini/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice to see Marcello Gandini and Valentino Balboni together! Found on Cristina and Davide’s excellent website. www.urracov8.com Image Unavailable, Please Login

Almost too scared to ask how much it is...! I've seen those Urraco images so many times now but never tire of looking at them
Nuccio Bertone with his own example of Gandini's wonderful 308GT4 (born of the Urraco of course), does anyone know who the other chap is with the glasses...?
great stuff P5, thanks for posting ive never seen a bertone silhouette rendering. there were a few urraco older targa drawings and artist impression in various magazine back in the day but never a official rendering?
