since no one answered my question about routine service i took them apart. for those who have injected cars and haven't done this before it was straight forward and kind of like being 20 again - alfa days. pull the neoprenne boots as far up the plug wires as they will go and then loosen the three 8 mm hex head screws. pull the caps. clean the contacts with a fine jeweler's file (used to be called points files). i took just enough off to make them shiny since i suspect replacement parts are absurdly expensive and intend to get a lot of miles from the current ones. there was no oil in either cap which was good since you need to replace the cam seal if leaking. the rotors pull off and are keyed so its impossible to put them back on incorrectly. those are also filed until just shiny. smear a tiny amount of oil on the rotor shafts to prevent corrosion and push them back on until seated down firm. this was routine stuff in the old days with points ignition but at least you don't have to replace and gap points. good luck. jon s.
