I am disassembling a few Marelli starter drives and am not sure if they should be assembled dry or with grease. They may have been originally assembled with a very light coating of grease that has dried up over the 50+ years. The few YouTube videos of starter drive repairs show grease being used.

You don't want the grease to mess with the starter clutch. Maybe one-way bearing grease would be appropriate?

After doing a little web searching on sprag clutches it seems like a light coating of silicone grease may work.

Back in the day when I was flying RC heli, we had tons of problems with sprags that would disengage mid-flight (sadly I was real bad at autorotation...). The idea is to use a lubricant that does not stick and that does not incorporate friction modifiers. In our case ATF was perfect, but maybe not practical in a starter. Pure silicone would probably make it do, not because it is silicone, but because it does not contain any of the nasty additives!

Renolds does provide some good recommendation on what lubricant to use for sprags.

The V-12 starter doesn't require any lubrication. You can lightly oil the linkage on the V-12 starter solenoid.
The V-6 starter uses a Bendix drive. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bendix_drive Since the pinion gear moves back and forth on the motor shaft, the shaft should have a light coat of grease.
