Received this by Email from a friend. I was wondering whether it holds a shred of truth. If it does then bring me the butter!

I do know that margarine (at least the stuff sold in the US) is high in trans fat unless specifically labelled as being otherwise. Trans fat was quite recently shown to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. So steer clear of it.

Butter is not healthy either. It's like the devil and the deep blue sea. But at least butter doesn't taste like crap! :D

    Basically true but highly misleading.

Water is one atom away from being hydrogen peroxide.

Carbon dioxide is one atom away from being carbon monoxide.

    Etc.

Still, I believe the general consensus in the medical community is that butter is not as bad for you as margarine.

The questions remain the same, just the answers change!

as with urotrash... james you gotta stop reading this dumb-ass **** you find on the internet.

it's obviously designed for people without a brain who are willing to proliferate stupidity around the world by passing this 'information' on to others.

    stop it.

    Well as Uro says misleading

but the human body really has a tough time with some of the "butter" subs out there. The body is not designed to process some of the processed foods

I think this msg was originated by the FDPSIBSKM (Farmer and Dairy Producers Society to Increase Butter Sales and Kill Margerine).

Oh, I don't know about the relative health benefits of either but...

I took a tour of the "Standard Brands" margarine factory some years ago.

The smell was bad enough to GAG A MAGGOT. And the whole mfg. process was pretty damn disgusting, too.

They were making about ten different brands, same content, just changing the boxes and the wrappers.

Last time I used margarine was the day I took that tour and I can still remember that smell........

    Whoah, easy there!

It was sent to me, I don't go out of my way to find 'dumb-ass ****'. The reason I gave it a second thought was because of various programmes I heard on TV discusssing margarine (e.g. risk to eyesight, etc).

Margarine was designed as a low cost alternative for those that could not afford butter. Butter is better for you.

Disclaimer: I am not a nutritionist... but from what I have been told...

Almost any food that touts it's content of polyunsaturated fats, contrary to old science, IS quite unhealthy. I guess it has been found, that the polyunsaturated fats, when "broken down" in the bodily processing, turns into roughly twice the amount of saturated fats.

Butter is better for you than margarine. It surely isn't "health food," but it is the lesser of these two evils.

Olive oil, for cooking, is probably the best, it actually helps the body break down cholesterol.
