I was thinking of hitting the Marine Room for Sunday Brunch some time in the future, and wanted to know:

1 - How is their brunch experience. Food, service, etc. From the various reviews I have read, it seemed very good.

2 - More importantly, is there valet parking? How was it? Can you self park? I think it is at the La Jolla Shores Hotel.

I didn't want to risk taking a trip from OC only to be pissed off at the parking situation. Thanks in advance for any help.

    G,

I have been there numerous occasions. The service is very good. I have only been to brunch once, but there is a very large selection when I went there a few years ago. If you like crab or shrimp, you will be in heaven. Not sure if this is how they still do it, as I have only been there for dinner the last few visits.

You can valet park your car, or you can self park in the lot across the street I believe. I have always valet my car, but have never taken the F-car there. I don't think there is any issue getting in/out of the valet area with regards to ramps/bumps etc for scraping the front end.

I think it is not as good as back in it's heydey. It's over priced, the food can be very good; but you can't beat the view looking out into La Jolla Cove. Best times I have had have been at night at high tide. Overall a good experience and have enjoyed it everytime, but there are better places for food, this place is more for aptmosphere in my opinion.

But on the other hand, I can't think of a better place for brunch. Google Earth a satellite view, you can see the parking lot right across the street.

    Have fun !

You better check with them. A few months ago I called for Sunday Brunch reservations and they said they no longer served Sunday brunch. They referred me to a related restaurant at a hotel on the beach a couple of blocks away. According the the Marine Room captain, the same chef was responsible for both restaurants and the food was stated to be excellent at the brunch. I took some guests there and we were all very disappointed; it was not at all as described. Mediocre food, slow service, indifferent waitress! Nice view but lots of places in LaJolla have a nice view.

Piatti, down the street, has great food and good service but no view. Georges has both. Fantastic brunch at the La Valancia hotel and they will usually leave your Ferrari out front.
