Ah, finally a good explanation! I wondered quite a lot when I saw Hamilton's and especially now Webber's lap how they could be that fast. I mean, over 1s on such a short track is an eternity, I'd have expected Vettel and Hamilton to be equally fast (+/- 0.1s max). Of course the British patriot Clarkson doesn't mention such minor details like a new track surface

 

Ben Collins said that when somebody asked him how his time was being regularly beaten by F1 drivers. Not to mention that some lacettis have one light racing seat and some two. That could be worth a second
